I will present last week's news Esther Stephens visited Mr and Mrs. Henry Carroll Sunday evening. UPPERCLASSMEN IN THE SUPER- natural Literature Class taught by Clyde Swisher have each made a project depicting a supernatural story.. Altogether. 32 projects were built by the students, with some of the more creative pictured above. From the story "The Terribly Strange Bed" came this project, built by Norene Savage. The castles were constructed by Beth Stout and Sherrie Fitzsimmons, inspired by the story "Carmilla.” Randy Savage made the gorilla, which weighed over 25 pounds, for the story "The Mark of the Beast.'* The cabin from "The Boarded Window" was made by Scott Holcomb. Many other outstanding projects could not be pictured. News From Big Bend By Goldie Roberts BIG BEND • Several Big Bend young people have left for college. Margo Case is going to OCE at Monmouth. Marla Case is going to Eastern Oregon College at La Grande as is Terry Lvnn Morinaka. Bruce Ishida is going to Boise State Univer sity. Julie Ishida and Mar shall Witty are going to TVCC in Ontario Wanda Gregg recently visited her great-grandpa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Rav Cartwright. She is in Nurses training at Eugene. Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Bovce Van DeWater returned home Fri day from Lebanon. Oregon where they were called by the serious illness of her sister. Mrs. Gladys Devine Mrs. Devine passed away Satur day and was buried Wednes day. Mrs. Van DeWater's sister. Mrs. Katheryn Arm strong of Van Coo ver. B.C. came home with them. Mrs. Devine had visited the Van DeWaters many times and many will remember her. Mr. and Mrs. John Pack wood and Mrs. Ethel Smith attended the Parma Senior Citizens dinner Thursday. Mrs. Don Case. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Chaney and Mrs. Dyre Roberts attended the Adrian High School Girls Field Hockey game Thursday afternoon when Adnan beat Vallivue 1-0. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hobbs and daughter of Filer recently visited his grand parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cartwright. Mr. and Mrs. Noel Tup- penv and the three Pollard children attended the wed ding of David Brumbaugh in Nampa Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. John Pack wood visited Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Musgrove in Marsing Sunday afternoon. Tinley Howell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Holton was crowned Adnan's Homecom ing .Queen Friday evening. Pam Gray was the Junior attendant and Brenda Car lock the freshman attendant. Big Bend was the scene of another fire Saturday when the garage and surrounding yard was burned at the Bob Perkins farm. The Adrian Fire department and neigh bors kept it from the house and the car from being completely destroyed. Mary. Susan and Carlene Carroll went on Campout to Richland for the visually handicapped over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Reed and Laure of Boise. Mr. and Mrs W C. Van DeWater and Kent of Caldwell; Bill and Billy Van DeWater of Adrian called on Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Van DeWater and Mrs. Amstrong Sunday evening. Mrs. Wilma Hobbs and Jeff of Payette were Tuesday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cartwright. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Thomas and family were Tuesday evening callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Thomas near Notus. There were fourteen ladies and three children at the Tuesday morning Bible Study at the home of Mr. and Mrs Charles Witty. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Callahan and Alex, and Mr. and Mrs. Philip Callahan and family enjoyed a picnic lunch at the Owyhee Reservoir Sunday. Amity Women Meet The Amity Club met at the home of Mrs. J. Elwood Flinders Tuesday evening. Mrs. Helen Peterson assis ted her in showing slides of the laying of the cornerstone of the hospital ceremonies; the building of the Nyssa LDS Stake House; the Owyhee River flood; Santa coming to town in his helicopter and many other events of 1948 to 1953. These were taken by her father. Leo W. Child. The door prize was won by Dorothea Mitchell. The October meeting will be held at the home of Alta Gibson. The date will be announced. Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Carroll. Roy and Jim Wood, Mrs. Carroll's brother, went down the Columbia on a trip to Albany. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Bob Epling and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Carroll. While they were visiting Ruth (Mrs. Epling). a granddaughter of the Carrolls came from Vancou ver. Washington. She was Mrs. Michael Green. She brought her infant son. Dustin Michael, the Carrolls only great-grandchild for a little visit. The Carrolls and Roy and Jim Wood came home by way of Bend, stopping for dinner at the Grizzly Bear and a short visit with Orville Carroll who works there. Mrs. Emmy Wood and Mrs. Eva Tully of Boise, visited Mr. and Mrs. Henry Carroll. Tuesday. Mrs. Wood is an aunt of Mrs. Carroll. Other guests for dinner were Mrs. Edith Allumball from Boise, a cousin; Mrs. Cloma Petterson, from Flint, Okla homa; Orville Carroll of Bend; and Jim Wood, a brother of Mrs. Carroll visiting from Colcord. Okla homa. Mrs. Tully was cele brating her 92nd birthday. Wednesday evening. Mr. Judge Sallee Honored Recently retired A. C. Sallee, who had been muni cipal judge for the city of Nyssa for sixteen years, and his wife Mabie were honored at a dinner at the Twilight Cafe Tuesday evening. Nyssa Mayor Don Olde meyer presented Mr. Sallee with a bronze piacque with the inscription: "For sixteen years of faithful community service as municipal judge for the City of Nyssa.” City Manager Henry Sch neider introduced the Nyssa City Council members, the city employees, police offi cers. librarians and Munici pal Judge Fred Robinson and their wives. DEPARTMENT STORE Grandmother 372-3563 n,u Steer-Inn Drive Inn Trip by Dale Witt Jess Asumendi and son Tony flew to Roseburg. August 29 for a fishing trip. They left Ontario with their friend. Dick McDonald, a dentist in Roseburg, who was their pilot for the trip. It took them two hours and forty-five minutes to fly to Roseburg. After lunch at the McDo nald home they headed for the ocean. On the way they saw elk, lots of wild blackberries and really beau tiful trees. They were joined by another friend. Bob Bailey, a veterinary in Roseburg, when they arrived at Salmon Harbor at Win chester Bay. The foursome then journeyed to Coos Bay where they unloaded their river boat. However, they fished with Bob's boat "Father's Folly" on the ocean. Upon their arrival, the ocean was too choppy for salmon fishing so they caught thirty crabs. During this, the crab rope got caught in the jet unit and the boat finally drifted near a shipping company and some commer cial fishermen pulled them in. The next morning(Satur- day) when they went salmon fishing. Tony caught a seventeen-inch silver salmon and a 17’Zi-inch one. Later to THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD TONY ASUMENDI HOLDING his add to his fisherman's luck, version of "Jaws." Arthur is his brother and he will visit him for a few days before leaving for his home in Colcord, Oklahoma. Thursday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bowers went to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mitchell's home for a party for Mark Bowers, who was celebrating his 11th birthday. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ron Schoeneman and family. Don and Janice Bowers, and Brian and Barbie. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Snyder and Sidney and Mr. and Mrs. Don Bullard and family went to Farewell Bend, Sunday for a picnic. (This Week's News) Mrs. Gladys Feik's sisters. Edith Hirschi of Idaho Falls and Mrs. Dora Throckmorton of Salt Lake City returned Tuesday, after visiting their brother and wife. Mr. and Mrs. Frank James in Pendle ton, Oregon for a few days. Wednesday, Mrs. Hirschi, Mrs. Feik and Mrs. Throck morton drove to Boise to see their aunt. Eva Lyons. Guests for dinner at the Parley Feik home were Mr. and Mrs. Steve James of Eagle. Mr. James is a brother of Mrs. Feik. Mrs. Hirschi and Mrs. Throck morton. On Friday, Mrs. Edith Hirschi, and Mrs. Dora Throckmorton, left the Feik residence to return to their respective homes. Amy Stradley went to Boise with the "Son Shiners” and their families. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Haney and Mr. nd Mrs. Harold Dail. The "Son Shiners’* sang at Hill View N azarene Church at the morning service. Then the group went to Julia Davis Part for picnic in honor of Boyd Haney's birthday. Bill and Janine Stradley of Meachem were also guests. Mrs. Amy Stradley had a quilt tying party one after noon last week. Helpers and guests were her sister. Gertie Smith of Nyssa and her daughters, Ethel Mae Dail and Annette Haney. Mrs. Don Bowers. Brian. Brenda and Barbara were visitors at the Clyde Bowers home Thursday evening.
