Thursday, February 13, 1975 OUT OF THE PAST 10 YEARS AGO Nyssa High School "Quiz Kids" emerged victorious last Thursday afternoon in a television battle against four students from the high school at New Plymouth. Idaho. The local winning team was comprised of Kathy Farmer, Judy Nedry, Victor Haburchak and Greg Sum ner. They walked off with 230-140 win and earned $10 lor their school library. K /J obbsí À > J JI I ■ e ECONOMY SIZE DUNCAN HINES ARTIST OF THE MONTH at the Nyssa City Library is Virgil Robinson of Payette. Two of his paintings, shown above, are Mt If««*! and Malheur Butte. Mr Robinson is a native Idahoan, and has been painting for over five years. His painting is done in spare time hours, using acry lics almost exclusively. His work is on display and for sale at the Art Mart in Boise and McCall, and he also paints on consignment. Mr Robinson won the competition in 197.1 and 1974 for livestock art. which is sponsored by the Western Idaho Fair Hoard, and these paintings are on permanent display at the fairgrounds The paintings may be viewed during regular library hours during the month of February. Pour apples and water into a strainer and presto-they‘re Cherry Torte Apple Torte •’ egg white» I tsp. vanilla 1 cup ••gar G cup chopped walnuts '-i cup finely crushed saltine crackers 1 tsp baking powder Filling: 2 */, cups pitted tart red cherries V* cup sugar 1 • tsp. almond extract 2 tbsp, cornstarch I cup whipped topping Heat egg whites and vanilla until foamy. Gra dually add the I cup sugar, beating to stiff peaks, (at least 3 minutes) mix together nuts, cracker crumbs and baking powder; fold in egg whites carefuly Spread in well-greased 9-mch pic pan. building up sides. Bake in .100 degree oven about 40 minutes or until dry on outside. Cool, Drain cherries, reserve SV- rup. In saucepan, combine 3 4 cup of the syrup, the remaining sugar and almond extract, heat to boiling. Add cherries, cook 5 minutes. Combine cornstarch and re maining syrup. Add to hot mixture in saucepan. Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly. Cool. Whip cream. Line Meringue shell with half of the whipped cream. Fill with cooled cherry mixture; top with remaining whipped cream. Makes 6 to 8 servings. FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE Friendship Circle met Fri day, February 7 at the home of Ida Walters with Mae Helion and May Hretz assis ting President Leona Reeves presided over the meeting. Twenty-three members ans wered roll call. Following the business meeting five tables of bunco were in play with Anna Marostica taking high ho nors. Ornia Cleaver traveling and Leona Reeves low. A Valentine gift exchange was held. The next meeting will be March 7 with the place to be announced later. Refresh ments were served with a Valentine motif. 594 9 oz. The cookies will be bozed and delivered to the Nursing Home on Friday. Also on the program will he the demonstration of a dried arrangement in a bottle by Mrs Mas Atagi. Mrs. Elver Nielsen is chairman of the committee to find a work project for the year and any suggestions will be appreciated. Visitors and any interested persons are welcome to attend.
