ANTI HOSE Study on Solid Waste Practices Released The Pacific Northwest Re gional Commission released the retells of a study oil solid waste practices and alterna tives in MalheurCoimty.Uregon and Payette, Om, Washington, and Canyon Counties, in Idaho. The study determined the amounts of waste generated in each county and made several recommendations to the local governmental units. Primary among recommen dations was that the counties should work together in their handling of solid wastes This regionalized concept would make the ultimate cost of dis posal to the residents cheaper than if each MUBtf CMtlMM to pursue their individual ac tion as in the past. The re port suggests that one sani tary landfill, centrally located could handle all the waste from the study area Fruitland was considered as the most cen trally located The study was financed through the Northwest Regional Commission which ny made up of the governors of Oregon. Idaho and Washington Beside the local study area on the Ore gon-Idaho border, an area on the Idaho W ashington border near Lewiston was also looked at. The purpose of the study was to consider the feasibility of several regionalized solid waste management alterna tives. Includ'd was a large recycling center where all wastes would be sorted and recycled. Another alternative involved a plant that would make compost of the waste Con sidered, but not reported on in depth, was incineration of the waste.
