Given for distinguished service in support of the dairy industry of Oregon, the award is signed by Gov. Tom McCall and Joe Payne, chairman of the Oregon Dairy Products Commission. Miss Gourley lives in Albany, and was accompanied to Nyssa by Ray L. Kozak, Executive Secretary of the Oregon Dairy Products Commission. Mrs. Dyre Roberts and Mrs. Jim Carroll called on Mrs. Burton Blades at the Caldwell Memorial Hospital Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Tim Tallman of Corvallis spent the week end here hunting and visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Seuell and Mrs. Beatrice Coons. Elementry Students Finish This Poem Contest By Oct. 31 > , ,*i Nyssa is on a mesa, the lowest in the State. The sun is always shining, And the rivers never late. You can catch the mountain trout, And eat them as you will. But you have to have a bigger line, To hold the sturgeon still. George Moore (101 year old man about town) started this little poem and would like any student from the elementary schools to finish the poem with another verse. He is offering a prize of $10 in cash to the winner. Any grade school students from this area is eligible. The deadline for entries will be October 31, 1971. Bring, send or mail your entry to the Gate City Journal office. A retired teacher and her com mittee will be the judges of the contest. We will publish the winner’s name and his ending to the poem in the paper as soon as the jud ges decide the winner. Tom Sells, a student at the U of I was home over the week end. Mr. and Mrs Earl Boston were Sunday guests in the Robert Shippy home at Weiser. Mrs. Nell Correll, and her guests Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Correll drove to Sun Valley Wednesday. On the way home they visited in Boise with Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Whittom. Mr. and Mrs. GordonCorrell of Marysville, Wash., left Mon day morning after a 10 day visit with his mother, Mrs. Nell Correll. Mrs. Don Derryberry and children of Payette were Satur day overnight guests in the Gene Honey home. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wild were Saturday evening dinner guests in the Dwight Seward home to wish Gary a happy birthday an niversary and visit with Ethel Wild. Cottrell, Nyssa, recently was assigned to the 45th support company near Tan Son Nhut, Vietnam. Capt. Cottrell entered the army in February 1962 and was last stationed at Ft. Hood, Tex. The captain is a 1956 gradu ate of Cody (Wyo.) High School and received his B.A. degree in 1962 from the University of Wyoming, Laramie. He holds the army commen dation medal, the meritorious service medal and the bronze star medal. Capt. Cottrell is a veteran of service in Viet nam. His wife, Shirley, lives at route 2, Nyssa. Union Pacific Retiree Honored Miguel Montoya, 65, was given this money tree by his fel low employees of the Union Pacific Railroad upon his re tirement September 22. Montoya and his wife were guests of honor at the El Tejano Cafe to celebrate the occasion.
