He will fly from there to his new duty station at the U.S. Taiwan Defense Command, Formosa. David has spent the last month at home on leave. His new tour of duty is for 15 months, andhe will work in the Communica tions Section of the base. RFC Louie Herrera Pvt. Bradley Jenkins BAD HERSFELD, GERMANY- (AHTNC) Army Private First Class Louie Herrera, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victorio Her rera, Ontario, was recently as signed to the 14th Armored Cavalry Regiment near Bad Hersfeld, Germany. Private Herrera is assigned to Troop L of the Regiment’s 3rd Squadron. Pvt. Jeffery Powell FT. LEWIS, WASH(AHTNC)- Army Private Jeffery F. Powell, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Powell, 389 N.E. Third St., Ontario, recently completed eight weeks of basic training at the U.S. Army Trainingcenter, Infantry, Ft. Lewis, Wash. He received Instruction in irill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, combat tactics, military courtesy, military ju stice, first aid, and Army his- ory and traditions. Appearing in Ontario on Thursday August 26 will be the 234th Oregon Army National Guard Band, one of the most versatile units in the Oregon National Guard troop list. This unit was one of the first or ganizations assigned to the state after World War II, and the first unit to win the coveted Eisenhower Trophy as the most outstanding National Guard unit in the State. (AHTNC) Private Michael V. Terry, whose mother, Mrs. Nellie E. Bacon, and wife, Pamela, live at 513 N. Third Street, Nyssa, is assigned to Ft. Ord, Calif, where he is training under the Modern Volunteer Army Field Experiment. The new concept, called Volar, combines basic and ad vanced individual training into a single 16-week program. De centralized instruction at the unit level and a reduction of formations and inspections gives the soldier more time to train and increased off-duty time. Fewer restrictions on off-duty travel and improved ( living facilities are other bene fits of the Volar concept. Pvt. Terry is scheduled to complete the first phase on Sep tember 3.
