Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morris, Nyssa, recently was assigned to the office of the secretary of the General Staff, Headquarters, 8th UnitedStates Army, Seoul, Korea. Captain Morris received his BS in business administration from Oregon State University in Corvallis in 1961. His wife, Ursula, is living at 5105 Louis Dr., El Paso, Texas. The U.S. Labor Department has added Deschutes and Grant counties to the areas in Oregon of substantial unemployment and Umatilla county has been changed from the substantial to the persistent unemployment list, Ross Morgan, administ rator, Employment Division re ported here. Morgan also said that Malheur county has been removed from the list of Oregon substantial unemployment areas. Those areas placed on the substantial and persistent unemployment list are eligible for Federal assistance under Title I of the Public Works and Economic Development Act, effective July 1. The Employment Di» ision re port which recommended re moval of the Ontario Labor Area, including Malheur county, Oregon and Payette and Wash ington counties, Idaho, from the substantial unemployment list said: “The economy of Mal heur, Payette and Washington counties in Oregon and Idaho is quite stable. With food pro cessing going strong in the win ter, and construction, lumber, and farm operations peaking during the summer. Ontario Cadet At Summer Camp DAVID EDMONDSON RONALD EDMONDSON Privates Ronald and David Edmondson, having both just completed Basic Training at Fort Lewis, Washington, spent from June 18 until July 1 visi ting at the home of their parents Mr. and Mrs. Ray Edmondson of Nyssa. Both boys left July 1 to re turn to duty. Ronald will report to Belboir, Va., where he will have 11 weeks schooling in Heavy Equipment Maintainance and David will report for 11 weeks training in Fort Eustas, Va., for Air Frame Repair schooling. Mel drum, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald K, Meldrum, Route 1, Ontario, is receiving six weeks practical work in military leadership at the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Ad vanced Summer Camp at Ft. Lewis, Wash., from June 11 - July 22. Meldrum, who is attending Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, is one of more than 13,000 students attending ROTC summer training at six installations in the UnitedStates. The Army ROTC Advanced Camp is devoted to the prac tical application of leadership principles. Field training em phasizes the exercise of com mand and the making of sound decisions under pressure. These lessons reinforce the es- sential mission of army ROTC - to provide the nation with young men who have excellent civilian educations and who voluntarily qualify themselves during their student days for commissions in the army. Mr. and Mrs. George Tuppeny left Wednesday for their home in Denver after a vacation spent with Mr. and Mrs. Noel Tup peny. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Sillonis and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sil- DOROTHY PATCH VISITS IN NYSSA Mrs. Dorothy Patch of Salem arrived in Nyssa Saturday eve ning enroute to Nampa where she is to teach a class using the text, "The New Machines and the New Humanity Techne- thics,” at the School of Mis sions for United Methodist wo men from throughout Oregon and southern Idaho, Wednesday through Friday of this week. Mrs. Patch has been a teacher and in charge of the Social Studies Department at North Salem High School. Mrs. Patch visited in Nyssa with friends and old acquaint ances as they were former re sidents of Nyssa. The late Mr. Patch was principal at the Nyssa High School for four years. Austin attended a family picnic Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gifford in Nyssa. Mrs. Clayton Rockhill re turned home Friday from a week’s vacation spent in Bu- gene. She brought his sister Mr. and Mrs. Hemmerle of Eugene and their grandson David Rockhill of Corvallis home with her for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Varner Hopkins and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hop kins and family were Sunday guests of Mrs. Creola Betts. Mrs. Mike Sillonis and girls accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Muri Burns Sunday when they took the Mai children to Hammett to meet their parents. They took a six-hour ferry ride from Prince Rupert to Ketchikan, Alaska, where they were guests of Mrs. MikeSillonis’ brother, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Burns. While there they drove to ►»nth ends of the Highway on the Island. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sillonis also visited the Forest Service Department in Juneau. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sillonis left Wed nesday to spend a few days in Burns before going home to Ashland, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Seuell of Connel, Wash., spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Seuell and Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Seuell. Mrs. Dyre Roberts called on Mrs. Delno Brock in Ontario Tuesday evening. Mrs. Lynne Graham and children spent Sunday night and Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Graham in Middleton while her husband, Pete was fishing. Bobby, Cindy and Michael Mai of Burley spent from Wed nesday until Friday with their aunt Mrs. Mike Sillonis and family. Mr. and Mrs. Tim Tailman picnicked at the Owyhee Dam with friends Sunday. Julie and Angie Sillonis spent the weekend with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Muri Burns in Nyssa. Eleven protem officers as sisted in conducting the meet ing. Legislative Chairman Frank Sherwood reported on the new law concerning drunk dri ving. Mrs. Loyd Adams reported that the Cancer Drive had been successful in going over the quota of $5,000 by more than , $ 1,450. She thanked all those who had helped with the cam paign. A report on the State Grange Session held recently in Rose burg was given by delegate Ellen Jones. Members were treated to ice cream and cake by the hosts of the evening, FrankSherwoodand E.E.
