Much of the work that has been done in recent weeks is of the nature that it has been difficult to pu blicize. This work has in volved meetings with Congress men, telephone conferences with OEO officials, Gov ernor McCall’s office, and our representatives in Salem, as well as meetings of locally ele cted officials. We again want to thank all those who have worked so diligently toward the goal that any OEO programs in our area be locally controlled through democratic processes. To date, many people have volunteered to help and have stated, “Please let us know what we can do to help.” WE NOW NEED HELP, in two re spects. First, we need money to help pay the expenses of Juan Var gas, Roy Uranga and Wilton Jackson, for their trip to Wash ington, D.C. They will be paying much of the expense from their own money, but we should bear the financial burden. Please send your check now to either of us, payable to “United Americans.” Second, please write letters to your Congressional Repre sentatives telling them: 1. The Utah Migrant Council should not be allowed to spon sor programs or spend govern ment funds in this area; and 2. The funds should be made available to a local program sponsored by either the local Migrant Education Advisory Boards or the Malheur County Court. Many probably have never written a letter to Washington. We suggest that you don’t need to worry about the form- long hand is fine - and just write it in your own words, like you would to any friends. If we don’t move now and effectively block the Utah Migrant Council, our troubles may just be be ginning. So, we ask you to act right now, since your future depends upon it. Company president Albert Carlsen, left, presented the 1970 award to division manager J. P. O’Connor during a recent division-employe meeting in Ontario. O’Connor said the “honor and credit for this outstanding safety achievement belongs to all of the division’s employes,” who are stationed at Cambridge, Halfway, Homedale, Huntington, New Plymouth, Nyssa, Ontario, Parma, Payette, Vale and Weiser.
