BOB THOMPSON AGENCY DIAL 372-3355 NYSSA SUNDAY Stock Market Comes to Life in New Film Trading on the 19th century Curb Market — predecessor to the American Stock Exchange —took place outdoors, no mat ter what the weather. Hundreds of brokers gath ered on the streets of down town New York, waving and shouting to telephone clerks perched in windows above the street To be recognized in the crowd, brokers wore bi zarre clothing like yellow horn burgs and striped jackets. The buying and selling of securities became so noisy that traders developed a sys tern of hand signals to com municate. Modern Marketplace The Amex today bears little resemblance to its 19th cen tury ancestor The hurly burly of the old Outdoor Curb has been replaced by a public in terest emphasis on self regula tion and automation Floor officials on the Amer lean Exchange Trading Floor oversee the public market place. Stock Watch personnel monitor trading. Computer technicians operate electronic equipment. Educational Film Both faces of the Amex — its colorful history and today's streamline marketplace — now come to life in a new 22 min ute color film. “The Investor and the Marketplace." Performers in present-day sequences are the actual Trad ing Floor personnel and be hind the - scenes individuals who make the Amex work New Film Techniques In a cinematic first, new techniques are used to capture little understood phases of the market — how the public auc tion determines prices, and the execution of an investor’s order. GOLDEN TOUCH OF HOSPITALITY Georgia BY JANE ASHLEY I W Sauce Good Hot or Cold am going to count the stars!” shouted a little girl. But after a while she sighed, “Oh, dear! I had no idea there were so many.” The Psalmist startedtocount his blessings. But he exclaim ed in the 40th Psalm, “They are more than can be number ed." Then he made this comment, “I delight to do Thy will." Horseradish, a fimiliar con diment used with meats, provides the pungent flavor for this sause. Use it hot for main dishes, cold for sand wiches, or cold meat plates. Horseradish Sauce 1 '« I 1 '/2 tablespoon corn starch cup fresh bread crumbs cup milk (4-ounce) bottle horseradish teaspoon salt Dash pepper Mix corn starch and bread crumbs in medium saucepan. Gradually stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture comes to a boil and boils one minute. Remove from heat and stir in horseradish, salt and pepper. Reheat gently or chill. Makes 114 cups. Note: If thinner consistency is desired, stir in extra milk -GOOD HABIT \Safety\ TO GET INTO!
