Wilder, president of the National Asso ciation of Conservation Dis tricts (NACD), stated recently in his testimony on S. 3354. “As our population and de mands on the land have in creased, we have generally con tinued to act as though land of all kinds was plentiful. We have not been selective in land use. Until very recently, we have tended to function as though every acre was equal in its capabilities to every other acre,” Wilder said appearing at exploratory hearings held by the Senate Committee on In terior and Insular Affairs on S. 3354. The land-use bill by Sen. Henry M. Jackson (Wash.) pro poses legislation to extablish a national land use policy by broadening the authority of the Federal Water Resources Coun cil and river basin commis sions and by providing financial assistance for state-wide land use planning. “NACD has been deeply con cerned,” Wilder said, “atout WHAT TO DO WHEN S/eete Time COUNTY CHAIMAN GAS PEDAL STICKS NAMED FOR KAO Traffic is bunching up in front of you, so you take your foot off the gas pedal to slow your car’s momentum. The Kidney Association of Oregon has made an agreement with General Mills Corporation that if it will send 640,000 Betty Crocker coupons to the company, General Mills will issue a check to KAOforS3,200 so that a machine can be pur chased. Mrs. Anderson is appointing individuals in each of Oregon’s counties to act as county chair men to promote the collection of the coupons with individuals ami organizations. After the coupons have been counted in each county, they will then be sent to the statewide chairman who will in turn deliver them to the Kidney Association office in Portland. Mrs. Anderson pointed out that it will be most helpful if the coupons will go to the chair man in each county first so that volunteers can make an accurate count before they are forwarded to the statewide chairman. “It is extremely important,” she said, “that all coupons be ulti mately sent to KAO in Port land, since the agreement with General Mills states that the company will accept the coupons only from the Kidney Associa tion.” Concerned persons who wish to help the drive in Malheur county for the coupon collection are asked to mail or send them to Mrs. Storms.
