About 97 percent of the semi finalists are expected to become finalists, and each will be con- sidered for one of the 1,000 National Merit $1000 Scholar- ships which are allocated by state. Many will also be con sidered for the renewable four- year Merit Scholarship pro vided by some 4000 corpora tions, foundations, colleges, unions, trusts, professional as sociations, other organizations, and individuals. Each finalist will receive a Certificate of Merit in recognition of his out standing performance in the program. Winners of four-year Merit Scholarships may receive up to $15,000 a year for four college years, depending on their in dividual need. Winners of the National Merit $1000 Scholar ships will receive their non renewable one-time awardsup- on enrollment as full-time stu dents in accredited U.S colleges or universities. ;• High school grades, accom plishments, leadership qualities, and extra-curricular achievements of the finalists are evaluated, along with test scores, in selecting Merit Scho larship winners. NMSC identifies the semi finalists to all regionally ac credited colleges and un iversities and to other scholar- ship-gra nting agencies and sources of financial aid. Stu dies in former years have shown that about half of the semi finalists received financial aid .from sources other than the Merit Program. Names of the 1969-70 Merit Scholarship winners will be an nounced April 30, 1970. Some 21,600 students have received Merit Scholarships in the four teen annual programs to date. About $67 million in financial assistance to Merit Scholars and their colleges has been ex- Sended or commited through the lerit Program. • I I • • A " | I I ONTARIO LODGf No. 1630 BENEVOLENT AND PROTECTIVE ORDER OP ELKS ONTARIO, OREGON mu I Must Notify I In Writing I If stray livestock show up I around your place and you need I help from the Oregon Depart ment of Agriculture in locating I the owner don't delay in noti ♦ fying the department.
