ADRIAN NEWS Miss Faw Earns $300 Standard Oil Scholarship Karalee Faw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Faw of Vale, has been selected to receive a $300 college scholarship for excellence in 4-H and out standing academic achieve ment. She was selected from many candidates who had sub mitted their 4-H records to the state 4-H office at Oregon State university in Corvallis. The scholarship is awarded by Standard Oil Company of Cali fornia. Miss Faw is currently in Stutgartt, West Germany where she is participating in the In ternational Christian Youth Ex change program, sponsored by the United Methodist Church, She was graduated from Vale Union high school last year and plans to begin her studies at OSU this fall, after return ing from Germany on August 9. The scholarship awarded Karalee is one of several avail able to eligible 4-H’ers. Her records were first selected at the Malheur county level and subsequently submitted for state competition on -April 1. One of the fundamental criteria for competition in the state 4-H award program is that a candidate be enrolled in a cur rent 4-H program. Karalee more than “fills the bill” by carrying an individual 4-H foods and clothing project while in Germany. PERSONALS Mrs. Bruce Jenkins returned the evening of May 13 from a six day visit with her daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Fox and family in Spokane. ♦ ♦ * Mr. and Mrs. Howard Myrick left Friday, May 16 to attend Parents Weekend activities with their son, Russ Myrick at East ern Oregon college in La Grande. Mrs. Myrick rode to La Grande with Mrs. Ward Wieneke, who spent the weekend with her son, Jeff, also a stu dent at EOC. The Myricks went to Pendleton on the evening of May 17, when they visited another son, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Myrick and Vicki. Mr. and Mrs. Geza Mahaloc- zki visited Sunday evening, May 18 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Walker Jr. and family. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. The event honored the Pitman’s 47th wedding an niversary which was Saturday and the Haworth’s 49th an niversary on Monday. Jim Gooing of Seattle arrived May 11 to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Gooing. All of the Gooing children and their families were here last week to attend funeral services for their brother. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Dibble and Sue spent the weekend of May 10 with Mr. and Mrs. W illiam Gregg at Quincy, Wash. Sunday school patrons of the Homedale and Parma Nazarene churches met for a fellowship picnic May 18 at the Lloyd Dibble home. A quartet from Northwest Nazarene college sang in the afternoon and also at the Parma church during the morning worship service. Command Sgt. Major Merle Tuning of Detroit, Mich., spent a recent week visiting in the C. L. Fritts home and with other relatives. He left May 14 for a tour of duty in Korea. On May 18, seniors of the Parma and Nyssa high schools, who attend the United Meth odist church, were honored during the morning worship service. Corsages were given to the girls, with each boy re ceiving a boutonniere. A cof fee hour and reception was held in the Nyssa fellowship hall following the service. Seniors from Parma include Brenda Lew man, Marva Booth and Manlu Wilson. Honored seniors from Nyssa high school include Susan Bratton, Ronald Edmond son, Craig Robbins, Brenda Mc Kinney, Pamela Saito and Larry Wilson. Mrs. Lavone Fox of Cald well and Helen Wilson drove to Owyhee dam oo May 18. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Norland and Eric of Madras, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Lee Norland of Riverside, Calif., were May 12-13 overnight guests of Mrs. Martha Norland. Mac- Pherson of Ontario, is serving aboard the attack aircraft car rier USS Ticonderoga off the coast of Vietnem, according to a Navy news release. His ship’s present assign ment with the U. S. Seventh Fleet Attack Carrier Striking Force, Task Force 77, con sists of supporting U. S. and Allied forces and attacking enemy supply routes in the Republic of South Vietnam.
