Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Van Dewater entertained with a Feb. 15 evening dinner for the Rev. and Mrs. Eugene Slater and Billy of Roswell. Mr. and Mrs. K. I. Peterson of Adrian were Feb. 15 evening guests of the Harvey Bennetts. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Van De water and Kent visited on the evening of Feb. 15 in the Le roy Bennett home. Members of the session of the United Presbyterian church in Adrian held a business meet ing on the evening of Feb. 13 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Witty. Mr. and Mrs. Dyre Roberts visited on the afternoon of Feb. 14 with Mrs. Clyde Riggs in Parma. Mmes. Dry mix chicken soup was made by Mary Carroll, Joy Cameron and Tina Hamilton. Beans and Bacon soup was made by Sherri Price, Jody Phelps and Lynne Witty. Schneider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale C. Schneider of Nyssa, recently returned to Norfolk, Va., aboard the air craft carrier USS Independence, according to a U. S. Navy news release. For the past nine months the 80,000-ton carrier was oper ating with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. Indepen dence pilots logged 24,500 air craft take-offs and landings during various exercises. While deployed the Indepen dence crewmen celebrated the ship's 10th anniversary of com missioned service. In 10 years the Norfolk-based carrier has made one combat deployment off the coast of Vietnam, par ticipated in NATO exercises in the Norwegian Sea, and com pleted six Mediterranean cruises. GLEN WOOD JR. PFC Wood spent Feb. 1-2 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wood of 733 Adrian Blvd., Nyssa, while on atwo-dayleave before going to Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. He will be stationed there until June when he anticipates being sent to the Vietnam area. Glen’s brother, Michael, is also with the Mar ine Corps, serving on the USS Tripoli, 65 miles south of Da nang, Vietnam. JOHN T. LAURANCE Sgt. Laurance, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Laurance has been home on leave prior to a year’s duty at the BEMEWS site, Thule, Greenland. Since leav ing Malmstrom Air Force base, Great Falls, Mont., he had been in special training at Biloxi, Miss., as a radar operator MICHAEL WOOD for the Air Defense Command. Norris Niccum and his wife, Linda are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elza Niccum. Lt. Niccum is a six-year veteran Navy pilot and received his honorable discharge on Jan. 24, 1969. He recently returned from an eighteen-month flying assignment to Okinawa. He was stationed with Fleet Composite Five. During this tour, he spent approximately six months flying in and over South Vietnam. He also received an air medal, ninth highest award in the Navy. Lt. Niccum previously spent some time in the combat zone in 1966, while attached to Pat rol Squadron Two (UP-2), home-based at the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island, Wash. He was deployed to Tan Son Nhut Air Base at Saigon, Vietnam. UP-2 was attached to the Market Time Patrol Force, which patrols the coast of South Vietnam against infiltration of arms and ammunition by the Viet Cong. Lt. Niccum married Linda Salmon of Whidbey Island in May, 1967. She accompanied him during his 18-monthtourof Okinawa. Niccum acquired a position as pilot with Northwest Orient Airlines. Beginning in March, he will be assigned to Min neapolis, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holub, Mr. and Mrs. Elza Niccum, Lt. and Mrs. Norris Niccum were Feb. 16 dinner guests of the Glen Teague family.
