ÎMf NYSSA GAII Clîy j QUINAI MOI FÛUI JOB'S DAUGHTERS ACTIVITIES "These Fabulous Frenchmen” will present a "Festival of Musical Merriment” for Treasure Valley Community Concert patrons on Monday evening, Feb. 24 in the On tario high school auditorium. The performance is scheduled to begin at 8:15. They have been described as a delight ful troupe of latterday troubadors who run a complete gamut of emotions in their musical kaleidoscope of France. Their program consists of some 26 songs - or more cor rectly vignettes - revealing the pacing, the movements and the marvelous blend of voices for which they are famous. It is also announced that the Community Concert renewal campaign will begin on the evening of this concert. A table to accomodate area patrons will be set up in the foyer for this purpose. HAIR CARE GIVEN three beauty salons in Nyssa, The Owyhee, Beauty Nook and Mildred’s. It was done in ob servance of Valentines week by all beauty salons of the nation. Six women patients of the Nursing Home wing in the Mal heur Memorial hospital re ceived hair stylings the early part of this week. The stylings were done by employees of the CLASSIFIEDS FOR RESULTS! During the business session the girls voted to make favors for the Masonic and Eastern Star home in Forest Grove and to hold a March 2 smorgasbord. A ceremony of initiation was held for Karen Rigney, grand daughter of the First Bethel Guardian Mrs, Josephine Rig ney, and daughter of Mrs. Jane Parr Ribney, a charter member of Bethell 33. Among special guests at the Thursday evening meeting were Mrs. James Rig ney, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Rigney, Dr. L. A. Maulding and Mrs. Myrtle Alexander. Marlene Jamieson was chosen Jobie of the meeting and was given the bracelet. Re freshments of cupcakes, punch and coffee was served. GARDENERS MEET ANK garden club women held their February meeting in the home of Mrs. L. A. Maulding, with Mrs. Tom Nishitani as co hostess. After the serving of dessert refreshments, Mrs. Elton Mc Cormick gave the program on “The Habits of Insects.” President Mrs. Arie Bakker was in charge of the business session, during which plans were made for a valentine party in the nursing home wing at Malheur Memorial hospital. Also discussed was the land- scaping project at the local hospital. Planning was begun for the Malheur district meeting of the Oregon State Federation of Gar den Clubs, to be held April 24 when ANK members will serve as hostesses. Next meeting will be March 28 when members of the On tario garden club will host a workshop at the La Paloma cafe. They arrived Dec. 1 to spend the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Reffett of Sunset Valley and Mrs. Blanche McKie of Em mett. They also visited many other relatives and friends. On the evening of Feb. 13, the Hites; Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston of Payette, Mr. and Mrs. Veryl Harrison and family of Ontario were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hite. Feb. 14 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Reffett were Earl and Walter Hite, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Osborne of Durkee and Mrs. Blanche McKie of Emmett. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hite were Feb. 15 overnight guests of Mrs. McKie and the following day boarded their plane in Boise to return to Alaska. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lor ensen recently received word that a grandson, Wesley Parker of Sunnyvale, Calif., is station ed at Ft. Lewis, Wash., where he is in training. His address is Pvt. E-I Wes Parker, US- 56843598, COE, 4th Br. 2nd BDE, 2nd PLT, Ft. Lewis, Wash. 94833. Wesley is the younger son of the Donald L. Parkers, former residents of the Cow Hollow area. Dr. and Mrs. Stewart Mer rill of Boise were Feb. 15 visitors in the John Reffett home. Brett Hadley attended the dis trict wrestling tournament on Feb. 14-15 at Wahtonka high school. He was a member of the Nyssa team. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mitch ell and Mrs. Myrtle Hillis din ed at Two Boy’s Inn on the evening of Valentine’s day. Dent and Henry Mitchell were Feb. 16 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mitchell. Mrs. Gabriel Astoreca, Car men and Audrie attended a Feb. 14 evening birthday party for Shelly Gholson at Vale. Navy visited relatives and friends in this area last week. He and his father, George Wilson, were Feb. 11 callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Newgen. Wil son left Feb. 12 for La Grande where he visited his mother and sister. Mrs. Nora Stark and Mrs. Rose Douglas of Parma were Feb. 15 evening dinner guests of the Ora Newgens. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Moore and family of Nyssa and Tony Kratzberg of Parma were Feb. 16 visitors in the Ora Newgen residence. Lester Headden was a recent overnight guest in the Ken Lor ensen home. He recently re turned to this area after spend ing several months working in Nebraska. He is a carpenter and will be working again in this area. Auxiliary Activities One hundred seventy-two men and women were in attendance on the evening of Feb. 8 at the La Paloma restaurant in ob servance of Treasure Valley Christian Business and Pro fessional Women’s Council’s annual Men’s Night. Featured speaker was Lu Gillespie, gen eral manager of radio station KTW, Seattle. Special gift winners were: Barbara Hutchenson, Fruitland; Norman Spann, Vale; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Stephen, Nyssa; Bob Snyder, Fruitland; Bob Roberts, Ontario; Bill Nelson, Nyssa; Maurice Keene, Ontario; Craig Northrup, Nyssa; George Takao, Ontario; Mr. and Mrs. Art Shenk, Homedale. Christian Business and Pro fessional Women’s Council is an association which has no membership or dues. GRANGE NEWS A film on Safe Driving will be shown at the regular meeting of Oregon Trail Grange, Thurs day evening, Feb. 20 at 8 P.M. The film is sponsored by Grange Mutual Insurance Company and will be presented by Fred Scheutz of Baker and Wilbur Atherton, Insurance Agent for Malheur County. SUSAN LEAVITT AAUW MEETING The three exchange students living in Malheur county were guests of the Ontario Branch of the American Association of University Women at their Feb. 10 meeting. Dlsa Bjarnason of Iceland was introduced by her Ameri can mother, Mrs. William Schroeder of Vale. Sylvia Endara of Equador was intro duced by Mrs. Charles Steffens of Nyssa and Virginia Darhan by Mrs. Ivan Patrick of On tario. The girls talked of their countries and showed slides. Disa played the guitar. Mrs. Chad McBurney and Mrs. W. A. Barton were named co-chairmen of the annual tasting luncheon, fund raising activity of the branch. No date has yet been set. Hostesses for the Feb. 10 dinner, in addition to Mrs. Patrick at whose home the meeting was held, were Mmes. W. L. Tebbs, Leland Deal, Margaret Gardner, Al Hicks, William Jarvis, Ernest Adams, Irwin Troxell and Miss Mary Graham. DEBBIE DAVIS Her engagement to Bob Steel is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Quinn of Nyssa. Her fiance is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Steel of Parma. The bride-elect is a Nyssa high school senior. The future bridegroom is a 1968 graduate of Western Tech nical college in Denver, Colo., and is employed at Hollaway Motor Company in Ontario. An August wedding is being plan ned by the betrothed couple. Susan Lee’s engagement to Walter Lee Scott is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orson D. Leavitt of Nyssa. Her fiance is a son of Mrs. Irene Scott of Vale. The bride-elect will graduate from Nyssa high school in May and is presently employed part time as a sec retary for Farmer’s Insurance agency in Nyssa. She is also musical accompanist for Betty Wilson’s school of dancing and has served for three years as organist for the Nyssa first ward LDS church. The future bridegroom attended schools in Vale, spent two years as an employee for the Tokatee forest service at Roseburg, Ore., then fulfilled his service obligation in the Army Engineer unit in Vietnam.
