PERSONALS Sharon Blair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frell Blair who has been visiting a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd (Marilyn) Blair at Kansas City, Mo., arrived home July 17 by plane. Her sister-in-law and son, Curtis accompanied her to Nyssa. Marilyn flew to IdahoFallsJuly 19 and she was matron-of- honor at the July 20 wedding of her sister, Karen Hale and Dale Murray at the LDS temple there. Mr. and Mrs. Frell Blair and family left July 19 for Idaho Falls to attend the Hale-Murray wedding, and returned home on July 21. ♦ * ♦ Mr. and Mrs. O. E.Cheldelin left July 7 for Northern Idaho where they met his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cheldelin of Mt. Vernon, Wash. The two couples toured the area, stay ing for several days at Lake Pend Oreille and Farragut state park. They returned home July 20. The School of Science had 574 undergraduate women majors last year; Pharmacy, 137; Business and Technology, 447; Agriculture, 51; and En gineering, 15. There were 324 women working for advanced degrees, in addition. And the School of Forestry, which went years without women majors, can be included now also. Twenty years ago, the male female ratio at OSU was 3.36 men to every woman on campus - 5,713 to 1,715. Last year’s male-female ratio was 1.82 to 1 with 8,627 men and 4,731 women regis tered. More of the same is seen for the future by university offi cials. The report of new Oregon freshmen admitted to date for this fall shows 1,584 men and 1,330 women. The totals for freshmen coming to OSU from other states are heavily in favor of the men, however, 729 to 297. The increasing women’s enrollment is credited only partly to a national trend, it was noted. OSU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences, established in 1959, has drawn especially large numbers of women stu dents, and increases have been sizeable and steady in the Schools of Education and Home Economics. Last year’s totals showed 920 coeds in Humanities and Social Sciences; 1,390 in Education; and 852 in Home Economics.
