THE NYSSA GATE CITY JOURNAL, NYSSA, OREGON PAGE TEN AHS GRID PLAYER SELECTED FOR EAST-WEST SHRINE GAME Tim Tallman 1968 graduate of Adrian, has been selected to play in the East-West Shrine game in Pendleton on August 24. Tim led Adrian to the 1967 SRV A-4 football championship. He led the Adrian football team in both scoring and yards gained. He scored 126 points, 60 points by passing and 66 on the ground. He gained a total of 1523 yards by passing and running. Tim also led Adrian to its third consecutive SRV-B base ball championship and Oregon class B runner-ups. He was selected as a defin- sive half-back and quarterback. The AHS athlete is to report to the East’s practice field, in La Grande, August 11. There he will practice with players from different areasof the state for two weeks. Softball Tourney Now In Progress THURSDAY. BY BARBARA HOWARD 98C Slab Bacon Vaie Lads Take Little league Tourney Honors The Little League tournament held Thursday, Friday and Sat urday at Fruitland found the Vale youths in the champion ship spot as they defeated On tario No. 2 in their final con test Saturday evening by a 5-0 final score. Vale’s Bill Yraguen, in getting the final ‘big’ win, struck out 13 and gave up his only hit in .the fifth inning. The champions got their first two runs in the first frame. Their other three came in the fourth when Romans, Cammann and Ruiz walked to load the bases, with Yraguen cleaning up on a double. After a Thursday evening win, the Nyssa lads lost their second contest on Friday to the Ontario No. 2 contenders by a 13-2 final tally. ELKS' VANDAL TEAM REMAINS IN CONTENTION NU ACRES - The Farmerette women of Nu Acres held their annual picnic July 19 at the Cecil Evans home. Twenty club members and their families were present. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Betts, Vickie and Dorothy of Sierra Madre, Calif., spent a recent week visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Omar Betts. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Baxter spent July 4 in Rupert with the Charles Parr family. They also visited the Gerhard Schmidt family in Fairchild, enroute home. Judith Stohler of Burbank, Calif., has been visiting her parents, Mr. arl Mrs. Rhine- hold Stohler. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Libby took her mother, Mrs. Alden Bryan, out for a birthday dinner on the evening of July 20. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Barker and children of Madras arri ved by plane July 21 to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Omar Betts; her brother, the Irvin Betts family of Sierra Madre, Calif. The Californians have been guests of her parents. A recent family reunion was held at the Ralph Baxter home. Among those attending were the Messrs, and Mmes. Bert Schmidt, Suzanne and Peggy of Madras; J. L. Walker of Seattle; R. T. Walker and Angela of Fruitland; Gary Heap, David, Daniel, and John of Madras; Richard W ilson of San Fran cisco; Tom Walker of Port land; R. Bennett and daughter of Boise; Dennis Heap of Bend. All of Mrs. Baxters children were present except her young est son in Denver, Colo. His wife has been ill. Mrs. Charles Wade of Louisi ana has been visiting several days with the Rhine ho Id Stohlers. Mrs. Wade is a niece of Mrs. Stohler. Helping Mrs. Alden Bryan celebrate her birthday anniver sary on the evening of July 20 at the home of the Antone Mells, were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Libby, Mr. and Mrs. John Otto, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wise. July 21 evening guests in the Roy Howard home were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jenkins and family of Fruitland. Mr. and Mrs, Floyd Cuff of Jerome have been visiting in the RhineholdStohler home The women are sisters. Rick Coles and Jimmy Carr of Caldwell spent last week with the Alden Bryans. Four teams remained in con tention for the District Three Babe Ruth baseball title after third round play. The champions were to be named Wednesday night (after Journal presstime). They will advance to the state finals at Klamath Falls later. Pendleton’s Nationals elimi nated La Grande 7-1 and John Day sidelined the Ontario Beavers 8-7 in a pair of earlier games while the Ontario Van dals remained the only unde feated team in the tourney with a 5-1 win over Milton-Freewater.
