THURSDAY, AUGUST 18. 1966 Two Families Return From Vacations In Midwestern and Eastern Stales THE NYSSA GATE CITY JOURNAL. NYSSA, OREGON HIATT BROTHERS REUNION HELD IN PARENTAL HOME The home of Mr. und Mrs. Scott O. Hiatt on route 1, Nyssa, was the scene of a family reunion last week when the couple's eight sons were together for the first time in five years. Those present included the families of SSG Willis Q. Hiatt of Seattle; James J. of Phoenix; Leslie O., Eugene; Everett A of Burns; Dewayne, Galen. Clayton and Danny, al) of the home. The reunion was not complete, in that the Hiatts* only daughter, Edna, who resides in Little Rock, Ark , was not able to join the family. Also present at the reunion were six grandsons and one granddaughter. Other recent vis itors at the Hiatt residence were Mr and Mrs. Hollis Knowles of Oakridge and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Knowles of rural Nyssa. Mr and Mrs. Chris Rookstool of Culdwcll were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr. und Mrs. Roy Rookstool. MARY TOBLER HONORED Mrs. Evan (Mary) Tobler was honored guest at a farewell lun- ! cheon held Tuesday noon at Brownie’s cafe. Those present in- ' eluded Mmes. Neils Larsen, La- Verne Berg, Ernie Metcalf and Morris Huffman. The honoree was presented a gift handker chief by each of those in at tendance. The Tolblers moved re cently to Meridian to make their home. PAGE FIVE NYSSAN EARNS U OF O DEGREE IN JOURNALISM Bob Hendricks was among 920 students receiving degrees during summer commencement exercises held Aug. 13 at the University of Oregon in Eugene. He is a son of Nyssans Mr and Mrs. Oscar R Hendricks and re ceived his bachelor of science de gree in journalism from Univer sity President Arthur S Flem ming. The commencement address was given by Dr. O Meredith Wilson, former U of O president who is now serving in that same capa city at the University of Minne sota. VISIT IN CLEAVER HOME Recent visitors in the John Cleaver home were their sons in cluding Mr. and Mrs. Garner Cleaver and children of Center- ville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Max Cleaver and family of Newton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cleaver and son of Pocatello. Another re cent guest of the Cleavers was a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ray L. Boyer of St Petersburg, Fla. SUNDAY EVENING GUESTS Sunday evening barbecue din ner guests at the Earl Jennings home were Mrs. Barker Torrey, Butch, Gretchen and Robert of New Jersey and Miss Renee Somers. The Torrey family has been visiting during the summer months with her mother, Mrs. Margaretha van Twisk. ATTEND BEEKEEPERS MEET Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Sager, Mr. and Mrs. W W. Foster, Tom Brantner and Charles Wilson at tended an Oregon Beekeepers’ picnic held Sunday at Sun Lake. Sager is president of the state organization, and the group is now working with the Oregon Department of Agriculture on price support for honey.
