Friends of the honoree attended. By Ruth Robbins LINCOLN HEIGHTS—Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Harris and family attended a picnic Aug. 18 at the Allen Solterbeck home. The Solterbeck family gathered to honor Matts Josephson of Hedamora, Sweden. Matts is an exchange student for Payette and will be making his home with Mr. and Mrs. Allen Solterbeck. (Last Week’s News) Mrs. Chet Smith, Rickie and Leonard Abbott, Mrs. Ricks Gale and children, Mrs. Jack Slabaugh and children had a picnic Aug. 14 at Caldwell park. Vickie DeMark returned home with her grand mother, Mrs. Smith, to spend the weekend. Bobby Jo Abbott returned home Saturday after spending a week in the Frank Shelton home at Mr. and Mrs. Horace Chaney re ceived word of a new grand daughter, born Aug. 9 to Mr. and Mrs. David Chaney at Del Rio, Texas. Friendship Circle Meets THE YOUNG LADY in this photo is Miss Kathy Brady, a "Candy Striper" who has worked this summer as an aide in the nursing home wing at Malheur Memorial hospital. Here she is shown combing the hair of Laura Emmer Davis, a nursing home patient. Looking on is Mrs. Connie McClun of Payette, head nurse at the local hospital. Mrs. McClun has held this position for approximate ly a year, having replaced Mickey Milosh. Kathy is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. I. Brady of Boise and has been spending the sum mer with her grandmother, Mrs. J. I. Brady at her home on route 2, Nyssa, while working at the local nursing home. "Candy Strip ers" are young girls, ages 15 through 18 who are interested in a nursing career. They work without pay with only a reward of actual experience and training. In addition io grooming the pa tients, Kathy's work has included changing of beds, serving meals and other refreshments and many other all-around duties adding to the comfort of the elderly patients. Miss Brady became interested in the work while residing in Billings, Mont. The family moved to Boise in May this year. Mrs. McClun and other*, working with the young aide remarked to a Journal reporter, "V’e will really miss Kathy. We like- her so very much, she has done excellent work and we were happy to have her around as she cheerfully performed her 'Candy Striper' duties." The young lady will soon enter Borah high school in Boise as a member of the sophomore class. —Journal Photo. ATTEND BYU EXERCISES Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gonyer and Marilyn attended graduation ex ercises Aug. 22 at BYU in Provo for their daughter and sister, Miss Gloria Gonyer, when she received her master’s degree in business education. Gloria left Friday for Fuller ton, Calif., where she will teach business courses in the high school. Other members of the family returned to Nyssa Friday evening. VISIT IN WYOMING Mr. and Mrs. Emil Wohlcke, her daughter, LaDawn Haney and Carylee Mefford returned recent ly from a 10-day trip to Cody, Wyo., to visit Mrs. Wohlcke’s mo ther, Mrs. Ethel Smith and other relatives. The Rebecca Friendship circle met Aug. 14 for noon luncheon on the lawn at the home of Mrs. Tom Pettet. Eighteen ladies were serv ed refreshments by hostesses, Mrs. Jack Pettet and Mrs. Ted Frahm. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pettet and I grandchildren, Sheri and Larry I Reel, camped and fished several days recently in the Blue moun tains. Joel Barnes visited Aug. 18 with Mrs. Bernice Vetter of Baker and at the Conservative Baptist Camp Elkanah. Mr. and Mrs. George Barnes en tertained the Rev. and Mrs. Ron ald DeGraaff and Scotty and the former’s sister, Glenda DeGraaff, all of Boise, at dinner, on Sunday, Aug. 18. The Rev. DeGraaff was speaker at Malheur Butte Baptist church that day. Visit From California Mr. and Mrs. Delton Warren of Livermore, Calif., were recent guests of her aunt, Mrs. Irvin Kemble. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nelson and family went to Salt Lake City Aug. 16 and returned home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Pettet and grandchildren, Debbie and Mark Pettet, recently spent a few days camping and fishing at Lost lake and on Little Salmon river. FROM COAST FISHING TRIP Frank Kaneaster and Bruce Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Marcum Penn attended Conservative Bap and family, Mr. and Mrs. Murle tist church camp at Camp Elka Marcum and Joan returned home nah last week. Saturday evening from a nine- day trip to the coast. They were accompanied by Murle Marcum’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Mar cum of Salem and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Marcum and family of Eugene. Several of the group went deep sea fishing at Sunset Bay near Charleston and report getting their limits of salmon in two borhood attended a 25-year wed ding celebration Aug. 18 at Wei ser in honor of the Rev. and Mrs. Medford Roland. Harry Lee Smith is attending National Guard camp at Fort Lewis, Wash. Vern Smith drove to Salem Aug. 16 and brought Monte Cox home for a visit. They stayed all night with Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Latta in Redmond and returned to Ontario the next day. Judy, Sharon and David Col lins of Hermiston are staying with the Raymond Findley family working and visiting in this area. i Club Plans Reunion Picnic Thirteen ladies and five chil dren were in attendance at the Patch and Chat club when the group met Aug. 15 at the home of Mrs. Tom Pettet. The meeting was held on the lawn. During the business discussion it was decided to sponsor a Lincoln Heights re union picnic next July. Mrs. Ross won the surprise package. Mrs. Wes Randall led the group in a guessing game and Mrs. George Barnes was in charge of a ring toss. The hostess, Mrs. Irvin Kemble, and Mrs. Brock Robbins served refreshments at the close of the session. Nancy Robbins was a recent overnight guest of her grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Dearborn of Ontario. Mrs. Mertle Ledgerwood o f Richland, Wash., visited recently with her daughter, Mrs. Foster Sutton. Craft demonstrations will be given by Mrs. Wilbur Chapin, Mrs. Frank Holub and others from the Mitchell Butte area Thursday, Aug. 29, starting at 2 p.m., Mrs. Edna Mae Wimsatt has announc ed. These county fair demonstra tions will be held in the day room of the Armory building. Items to be demonstrated on Thursday include making a pixie doll, smocking for hats and purses and ideas for cake decorating. Friday, Aug. 30, Mrs. Iva Ken dall of Ontario will demonstrate a variety of methods for making pillow tops. Demonstrations will begin at 2 p.m. and continue throughout the day. Plan to visit the day room in the Armory building when visiting the fair, said Mrs. Wimsatt, county extension agent. JOHNSONS HAVE GUESTS Billy Sweaney of Caldwell spent last week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Johnson. Mrs. Sadie Doherty of Baker, aunt of Mrs. Johnson, was also a guest. Mrs. Doherty came tc be with her sister, Mrs. Ellen Fields, who underwent surgery last week at Malheur Memorial hospital. Mrs. Tom Pettet. Also arriving for a visit the same day were Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Louderbaugh of Los Angeles, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. John Wiggins of Pendleton arrived Aug. 17 at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wiggins. They left 11- month - old Tammie with her grandparents while they made a week’s trip to Lexington, Neb., to visit relatives. Attend Family Reunion Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ito and sons recently attended a reunion of Mrs. Ito’s family in Twin Falls. The family gathered at the home of her brother, George Semba. From there the Itos took a tour of Yellowstone park. Their neph ew, Ricky Semba, made the trip through the park with them. Mrs. Marjorie Fuller and family of Portland visited recently in the Fred and Harold Trenkel homes.
