NYSSA, OREGON Group Sees Cooking Demonstrations By 4-H Girls; July 17 Picnic Slated By Farmerette Club ACRES — Farmerette club members of Nu Acres held their monthly meeting June 19 at the home of Mrs. Zelda Dailey. Mrs. Margaret Wolfkiel and Mrs. Ra vena Martin were co-hostesses. Present were 22 members, four visitors and six children. After the regular business ses sion, Mrs. Henry Conner and Mrs. Gary Betts gave a lesson on nutri tion. This was followed by dem onstrations in cooking by four 4-H club girls. The 4-H demon strators were Leia Fry, Vickie Hislop, Christine Kynaston and Anita Maine, who gave excellent and interesting demonstrations. A handkerchief shower was also given for Alta Conner who is moving away. Refreshments of cake, ice cream and punch were served by the hostesses at the close of the afternoon meeting. It was announced that the next meeting will be the annual club picnic to be held at 7 p.m. July 17 at the Nyssa south park. Kristeen Keck and Patsy Hawks left Sunday for 4-H club congress at Moscow. The girls are attend ing on scholarships provided by the Nu Acres Farmerette club and Wilson’s Market of Nyssa. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Durring- ton of Middleton were recent vis itors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Martin. Move to Washington Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Conner en tertained with a dinner party Fri day evening in honor of the La- Verne Conner family which is moving this week to Quincy, Wash. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Conner and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Conner and Mr. and Mrs. Delvin Conner of Nyssa. Mrs. W. N. Caywood and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bob Cay wood of Nampa were recent lun-1 cheon guests at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ted Allison. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Edmundson and family, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Jim Butler of New’ Ply mouth and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gif ford of Sunset Valley went to Baker Sunday to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Butler. Thomas Evans and son, Rex of Livermore, Calif., arrived Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Evans, Sr. They plan to spend two weeks here. Mrs. Marion Reynolds of Nam pa was a weekend visitor at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ted Alli son. Visit Hospital Patient Mrs. Ida Gallant of Council was a Saturday luncheon guest of her J mother, Mrs. Alida Smit. They! spent the afternoon visiting Mrs. John Timmerman, a patient in j Malheur Memorial hospital. Nickie and Michele Sutherland | of Portland arrived Saturday at | the home of their grandparents. I Mr. and Mrs. Jay Conner. They will visit with relatives in the community until July 4 when Mr. and Mrs. Lorris Sutherland will come for them. Mrs. Thairl Bivens underwent surgery Saturday morning for ap pendicitis at Holy Rosary hospital in Ontario. She is home now and reported doing nicely. Katie Hawks arrived home Sat urday morning from Moscow where she attended college for the past term. This was her sec ond year at University of Idaho. Katie has accepted work as camp cook for the summer at the Girl Scout camp at Lake Tahoe. Mother Ill in California Mrs. George Dohner left Mon day for El Monte. Calif., where f she is at the bedside of her mo ther who is critically ill. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Conner of Eugene were recent weekend vis itors at the home of her parents,! Mr. and Mrs. Jay Conner. They also visited other relatives in the community. Shirley Conner, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Conner, went home with her un cle and aunt. They will take her to Portland to visit Mr. and Mrs. Lorris Sutherland and family and other relatives in that city. The Conners plan to bring Shirley home on July 4 when they will pay a return visit here. Shirley was privileged to see the Rose festival and parade while in the Rose City.
