Mrs. Jack Elliott left Thursday morning for Tillamook, Ore., to bring her sister, Mrs A. A. Ken dall, back for a vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Piercy and family and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Crocker spent Sunday boating and fishing on Lake Owyhee. Mr. and Mrs. Fort Sumpter and David and Mrs. Oscar Houston attended graduation exercises for Miss Dolly Sumpter in Payette. Evening callers were Mr and Mrs Warren John son and family. Attend Housewarming Mr. and Mrs. M. Atagi attend ed a surprise housewarming par ty honoring Mr. and Mrs. George Hirai who recently moved in to Nyssa. Approximately 40 friends and relatives gave the no-host party Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs Byrd Walters were Thursday evening dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Richesin. Mrs. Georgia Rust Porter of Los Angeles arrived Wednesday at the home of her cousin, Mrs. Lynn Kygar. On Friday Mrs. Por ter and Mrs. Kygar visited rela tives in Boise. Donnie Brewer spent the long weekend at the Cliff Main home in Nyssa On Memorial day Don- nie accompanied the Mains on a fishing trip near Beulah. Tammy and Tod Strong, chil- dren of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Strong, are spending several weeks vacationing at the home of their aunt and uncle, Mr and Mrs. David Strong at New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. Buster Edwards and John Reeves were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Brewer. Lt. Zack Stockett of Sted Air Force base, Reno, Nev., spent the weekend at the Dewey Strong home. Mrs. Stockett and children are here vacationing with the Strong family. Malheur Is No. 1 Better Farm Contest Winners Announced Dairying County, Winners of the better farming contest which was held recently were announced this week by Growing Rapidly Carl Devin, Nyssa vocational ag Ln recognition of June as Dairy month, Harry Sandquist, county agricultural agent, has furnished the Journal with facts and figures that show the importance of this industry to Malheur county. According to Sandquist, Mal heur is the leading dairy county in the entire state of Oregon, with approximately 900 farmers re ceiving all or part of their income from the sale of dairy products. He estimates the gross income to dairy farmers at about $4*4 million for 1959, since the total. including sale of surplus and young stock, was $4,050,000. Malheur county is not only the number one county in the sale of dairy products but is also con sidered the fastest growing in Oregon. Starting with 2,500 dairy cattle in 1920 the number has riculture teacher. Paul Seaquist, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Seaquist of Vale, was judged first place winner. Taking second place was Don ald Costley. son of Mrs Verna Costley of Adrian and third place went to Jerry Levanger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Levanger of Ontario. John Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen W. Peterson, placed fourth. All winners were awarded trophies. Other towns in this district who were not represented are Baker and Halfway. Seaquist will compete in a state contest to be held at the state fair grounds in Salem. practically doubled each 10 years since then, with an estimated 19,- 500 now in the county.
