We believe that the concern about the small voting •.•rcentage in Malheur county has reached the pc- -ple They evidently were shocked that in 1950 this c unty - ad the smallest percentage of eligible voters registered —a mere 63.2 percent—and this year the rec.rd has been .pped to 80 percent. The registration record is not as good as it sh aid be. but is encouraging to realize there has been a gain The urrent#>attle will not be won until 100 percent f the registered are marked off next Tuesday as having voted. It is ridiculous for any person of either p btical party to say, “There are a few things I don't like aoout the candidate my party has put up and I will r.< t vote f r the opposition, so I won’t bother to go to the polls These people seem to forget that such an attitude split many ,f the centuries-old foreign countries, some of them c >ing .nto the one-party or dictator system and others dividing into so many splinter parties that they fell apart They forget or do not know about Germany. Italy. Poland and many other nations where the free people were either in different or were "slightly dissatisfied" with candidates, but failed to support or reject them If y o u '« “embarrassed" to admit you are patri >tic an i love your country, just use the next best reas n for going to the polls Tuesday. Tell yourself that you want to put your two cents worth into any political discussion or argument. Even though you "vote wrong" you can still argue with a clear conscience. at Nyssa. The latter approach might be the most effective rr.ear. of helping bring voters to the polls.
