The Malheur Memorial hospital as sociation has announced that the additional $100,000 thus raised or pledged assures completion of the new medical facility for the long and growing area tributary to Nyssa. The raising in money and pledges of more than $.'150,000 to construct and equip a hospital in a city the size of Nyssa is a tremendous per capita achievement, and Nyssa is to be admired for having done this on a voluntary basis rather than by taxation. Hospital facilities are expanding elsewhere in the Snake River Valley. In Idaho, Bannock county and Twin Falls county are building large new hospitals to be paid for by taxpuycia. Weiser is financing a new hospital with a combination of gifts and taxpayers’ f inds. Boise and Caldwell have financed large hospital projects with donated funds. Voters in Payette county refused to approve a bond issue for a new county hospital. It’s defeat was due to opposition in communities south of the Payette river, situated closer to Ontario and Nyssa than they are to Payette. Thus geography worked against the success of that venture. Vale has been working on a hospital fund raising drive which seems to have slowed down for the time being. And what of Ontario? How fortunate we have been to have had the facilities of the Holy Rosary hospital here these many years. We have gotten off easily by virtue of the service of the sisters of the Dominican order. If we had paid more we might be more appreciative of the blessings of improved hospital service at the Holy Rosary hospital, where a new $200,000 wing was recently added with no fund raising campaign being undertaken here. family of Madras, spent the holi days with her parents.
