May 5. Felicia Ehlert, grand guardian of Oregon, presided while the follow ing members took office: Guard ian, Mrs Josephine Rigney; as sociate guardian, Jesse Rigney; guardian secretary, Mrs. Hazel Frost; treasurer, Mrs. Harlan Di- iven; guardian of music. Mrs. Hel en Wilson; guardian of finance, , Mrs. Norma M cKinney; guardian i of hospitality, Mrs. Helen Mauldlng, and guardian o f sociaibiiity, Mrs. D or;thy Burbidge. Mrs. Rigney was also installed as grand second mes senger in the state organization. The theme of the pro gram was "Latter Day Saint M o thers As Builders of Homes and Human C haracters". The Junior 3unday school furnished songs and readings conducted by Mrs. Eldred Brower. Talks were given by Mrs. Henry Zobell, Russel Phillips, G ary Leavitt, Fredrick Fife, Frank A n derson, Frell Blair and Mrs. Ronald Campbell. A vocal solo was pre sented by Charles Taylor and a eng was sung by the girls chorus, directed by Carson Healy and ac companied by Mrs. Fred Trost. A potted plant was given to each mo ther. Special gifts were given to Mrs. M ary Bybee, the oldest mo ther, and Mrs. Bonnie Gorrell, the youngest mother. LUNCHEON HONORS G UEST Mrs. Maurice Judd entertained in her Newell Heights home Tues day at a luncheon honoring Mrs. Ralph Fowler o f Pendleton. Guests were Mrs. Walter McPartland, Mrs. Dennis Patch, Mrs. Carl Hill, Mrs. Robert Overstreet and Mrs. Fowler. E PIS C O PAL G U IL D M EETS Mrs. Vernon Duus was hostess to the members of the Episcopal guild at her home Monday even ing. Final plans for the progress ive parties for Tuesday were dis cussed during the business meet ing. —I — B R ID G E CLUB E N T E R T A IN E D Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Eastman entertained the members of their Sunday evening bridge club at their home this week. High scores were held by Mrs. Harry Miner and George Henneman. E N T E R T A IN S FOR SON Mrs. George Whipple entertained at her home last Thursday in hon or of her son, Mark, on his birth-' day. Twelve children enjoyed games during the afternoon, followed by a lunch, including birthday cake. -5 - T O H AVE M U S IC A L SH O W I T h e M ay meeting o f the Nyssa 1 Civic club will feature a musical program on American music at the parish hall Wednesday, M ay 19 at 2:30 p.m. The program will consist of numbers by the Nyssa school or chestra, piano selections, a ladies trio, solo by Mrs. Robert Thurston of Vale, songs by a group of the Ontario choral club, and some folk music by students of the grade school. One o f the quilts will be sent to a minister and fam ily in Japan, and the other will be sent to a Methodist school in New M exi co. Mrs. Barney Wilson. Mrs. Mary Pruyn and Mrs. C. H. The guests presented Mrs. Morris with a table lamp and a f ter an evening spent informally, re- frehsments were served. —5 - H ONOR MOTHERS The Nyssa bethel of Job’s Daugh ters gave a breakfast honoring mothers of the members Sunday morning at 8:30. During the break fast a brief program was given as follows: Welcome, Beverly Hoehn; piano solo, Betty Wtnchell; poem to mother, Joan Narragon, and vocal solo, Loretta Russell, accom panied by Janice Frost. Also dur ing the breakfast the Daughters surprised Joan Narragon with a handkerchief shower. Joan left this week to make her home in Boulder, Colorado. Jab’s Daughters will hold their regular meeting Thursday, M ay 20. Assorted candies, cookies, cakes, pies and other cooked foods, and also doilies, tablecloths, aprons, pil low cases and various other items will be on sale. T h e purpose is to raise funds for the street paving and curbing around the church grounds. Th e public is invited to attend. Attends Wedding— Mrs. Nettie Simpson has returned from a visit with the Judge Higgs fam ily in Bums, where she at tended the wedding of Don Pitkin, formerly o f Nyssa, and Miss Martlia Kveskshas. A fter serving an en listment in the marines during the war, Pitkin returned to his position with a lumber firm at Burns. Later he took advantage of the G.I. train-1 Ing plan and studied accounting and details o f the lumber business. His w ife is employed as a book keeper at the Hines mill.
