THE NYSSA GATE CITY JOURNAL O w y în e e The Owyhee P.-T. A. met at the school house Thursday evening with a good attendance. Eleven members paid dues. Delegates were appoint ed to the county council. A program o f music by the upper grade girls was enjoyed. Mesdames Lewis Skin ner and Earl Crocker were hostesses and served doughnuts and coffee. Beet topping Is starting In Owy hee. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Walters enter tained at Sunday dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jones and family and M r and Mrs. Byrd Walters of Boise. Mr. Chas. Culbertson and two children left for Martinez. Calif., Thursday, taking Mrs. Bertha Cul bertson, who plans to make her home there. Don Strickland left Thursday for training camp. Mesdames Wm. and Werner Peutz, Mrs. Geo. Nein and Georgia Dlnnis returned Friday evening from Portland where they had attended the International Stock show. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crocker en tertained Sunday at dinner for the following. D Bigelow weie Sunday evening callers at the Wm. Peutz home. Marjory Hite spent several days with Mrs. EUis Walters last week while her mother attended Teach ers Institute. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peutz and grandson Billy were Sunday visit ors at the Wm. Peutz home. Doris Klingback of Payette and Louise Klingback of Boise spent Sunday at their home In Owyhee. Mr. and Mrs. Edison have moved to the house recently occupied by Mrs. Bertha Culbertson on the low er Klingback ranch. Mrs Kenneth McDonald and daughter Kay spent several days last week at the Klingback home. ---------- + ---------- Big Bend Mrs. H. R. Hatch and Miss Helen Hatch have sent out Invitations to a miscellaneous shower honoring Mrs. Betty W eir Samer, a recent bride. Directors for Riverside Irrigation Co. will leave the water In their ca nal bill October 20 as a number of the users are Just finishing stocking the third crop of hay and this gives everyone a chance to Irrigate. Jim Miller and Richard Holly spent the week end deer hunting In Ironside mountains. Elmer Parker and Geraldine were over Sunday guests In the E. E. Parker home. They left for Califor nia Monday. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Miller were Boise visitors Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Babcock of Caldwell, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Boss- hardt of Parma and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Brumbach were Sunday visit ors in the Phelan home. Miss Isabel Sarazin and her bro ther of Nyssa spent Sunday visiting in the Miller home. E. H. Brumbach transacted busi ness In Caldwell Tuesday. B Rookstool entertained at a bridal shower Saturday afternoon honoring Mrs. Barkley Wilson, lormerly Inza Ulvey. The party was given at the Archie Smith home. The afternoon was spent playing parlor games, with Mrs. Marion Chard, Mrs. H. J. Ulvey and Mrs. F. G. Holmes win ning prizes. The bride received many nice gifts. Refreshments were serv ed by the hostsses.. Oregon Trail P.-T. A. will meet at the school house Friday afternoon October 17, at 3:00 p. m, Mrs, Vic toria Schweizer will have charge of the program. The topic will be “The Future o f the P.-T. A. in a Demo cracy.” Everyone is Invited to attend. Torvald Olson is on the sick list. Mr. and Mrs. N. Ashley and chil dren and Mrs. R. Ashley returned from Utah last week where they have been visiting relatives. Beet harvesting started last week when several farmers began digging. Amonk them were Wm. DeGroff, M. Ataiigi and Lynn Snodgrass. Bob Holme cut the first lettuce Sunday Other farmers are busy cutting hay and late seed. Jack Simpson is threshing grain. » Marlon Chard is building a beet bed for his truck. Mrs. Barkley Wilson was an over night guest at the H. J. Ulvey home Saturday. ---------- * ---------- Kingman Kolony hunting trip. He accompanied Vern Moore of Adrian and Ray Cart- Wright of Big Bend. None of the party had any luck. Mrs Cartwright and son Darrel visited with her- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Parker, in Newell Heights, during her hus bands absence. Mrs. Dale Ashcraft and Mrs. Con rad Martin were in Caldwell on Thursday. Charles Newbill was in Parma on Wednesday and Thursday attending to business. Mrs. Clarence Elliott is weighing beets at the beet dump at Over- street crossing again this year. Miss Gladyce Holton of Boise ^pd Miss Dorothy Neilson of Ontario spent the week end in the Raymond Holton home. Miss May Beaumont and C. M. Beaumont were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Otis at Adrian. Nyssa Heights Mr. and Mrs. Guy Sweet, B erth a, and Marie were Sunday evening guests at the R. H. Johnson home. Mrs. Jack French, Mrs. R. H. Johnson, Mrs. George Clowers, Vtlot and Tommy were Thursday even ing guests at the Ben Luetz home. All the farmers are about through with their fall’s work except the beet men. Some of the farmers have clo ver to gather but one of the main crops is all up and I guess you have guessed it, it is the hay. Now back to the beet crop. The beet men were worried about not getting help to top their beets. But it has turned out fine so far. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Clowers and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Snyder of On tario, and Bill Snyder of Camp Lew is, Wash., were dinner guests of George Clowers and family Sunday. The 4-H Nimble Fingers club met at the home of Mrs. Walter Thomp son Friday. The annual meeting of the Pres bytery of the United Presbyterian church for this district was held in Welser last Thursday. Sixteen mem bers of the Adrian community church attended. Those from the Kingman community were Mrs. Raymond Holton, Mrs. J. G. Lane, Mrs. Lily Bach, Mrs Elmer Dutton, Mrs. Charles Wilson and Mrs. Mary Nichols. Mrs. Raymond Holton had charge of the morning “Quiet Hour." Mrs. Earl Osborn was elected tem perance secretary. Frank Ray of Newell Heights chopped hay for C. C. Cotton this past week. Mr. Cotton is feeding beef stock. Elmer Dutton is to start chopping hay for Beaumont and Toomb this coming week.
