THE NYSSA GATE CITY fOI IRNAL THURSDAY, AUGUST 21, 1941 Sunset Valley A picnic has oeen planned for Sunday, Aug. 24, by the Union S. S. to meet at the C. C. C. at noon. Adjoining Sunday Schools h ave been Invited. Plans included a speeaker at 3 P. M. Everyone come and bring a basket lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Thomason and daughter, Rosalee of Tacoma, Wash, arrived Friday at the home of his sister. Mrs. Merty Sweatland to spend the week-end. Mr. Tho mason Is a border Patrolman for Canada. The Sweatland and Thomason family, accompanied by Mrs Sweat- land's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B Thomason and her cousins. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Wilson picniced at Owy hee Dam Sunday. Mr. Clarence Dixon of Nebr. visi ted a few days at the home of his cousin, Mrs. Ira Chadd, arriving here Saturday. Bud Notheis planned to leave Monday for Hermlston, to work. Mrs. Wally Orcutt was in the hos pital for treatment two day last week. Mrs. L. E. Newgen visited friends In Ontario last Tuesday and Wed nesday Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Mosley of Vale and Jack Reffett of Weiser N. Y. A. were Sunday dinner guests at the Newgen home. Mr. and Mrs. John Reffett and two youngest children, Helen and Stanley left Sunday for Chicago, 111, where they will join the Reffett families for a family reunion. They expect to be gone two weeks. Albert Notheis had 3 days of bad luck last week. The first day a run away. injuring a horse badly, second day the hay derrick turned over and was broken beyond early re pair and the third day they lost their spare wheel and tire between Nyssa and home. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lorenson entertained with a dinner party Thursday evening honoring Lewie Davis of Tacoma Wash, who was here for a ten-day vacation from Fort Lewis. Guests were Arnold, Irvin and Clifford Wolfe, Lynn Buffington, Harley Wilson, and Harold Snyder. Mrs. Harley Wilson is visiting her sister in Cascade, Idaho. The C. E. Young people enjoyed an evening of amusement at the Hall, Friday, as a result of a con test, the losing side to entertain the winners. Miss Margery Hillis received a badly bruised eye-lid Sat. evening while riding in thebac k of a pick up. A small particle struck her eye, necessitating the care of the doctor. Cash Turner has ordered lumber and cement to build a new large chicken house. Mrs. A. R. Roberts has two un usual flowers in her collection this year. One is a bronze sun-flower with a large black center, flecked with gold, and single brown petals TheThe other is a double black hollyhock. Mrs. Ruby Robinson of Lodi. Cal ifornia arrived here last week for a visit with her brothers. Wilfred and Paul Gilbert. . Fire In the hay chopper almost caused the chopped hay stack be longing to Walter Hillis to b? burned Sunday when a hot bearing started a fire which was carried by a burning belt to the stack. The boys were eating dinner when it happened but saw It and soon put It out. A float representing "The Old Rugged Cross” is being prepared by an appointed commit tee. Glen Ward returned Tuesday ev ening from the Ontario hospital where he had undergone an appen dicitis operation. Mrs. Tom Whitlock is visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson. Mr. Dee Bishop and family and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Bishop are vis iting at the home of their son and brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Orla Bishop and daughter. Miss Kathryn Nielson will return to the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Lim Nielson, this week. She has been employed in Boise, Idaho the summer months. Miss MITCHELL BUTTE during Nielson will be a teacher in the On tario grade schools this year. Mrs. T. M. The regular meet ings will be on the second Thurs days in the evening. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Water seeping into the school house basement is causing quite a bit of work and expense. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Burman and daughter Marjory and son Stanley were guests Sunday of the Joe Codrs. Emil Codr who had been visiting the Burmans returned home. Mr. and Mrs. G. L. McMillan ar rived from Portland Sunday prep aratory to starting school in Owy hee on Sept 2nd. They have re cently installed a new electric stove in their home on the Skinner place. Mr. and Mrs. Chas Bradley and Mrs. Wm. Gordon were week-end guests of relatives in Unity. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Fetter and 3 sons enroute to Grand Coolee Dam were week-end guests in the paren tal D. P. Pullen home. Mrs. Ellis Walters is visiting this week at the Rex and Byrd Walters homes in Boise. J. V. Culbertson who is working at Unity visited his home here Sun day. Eldon Klingback of Emmett is spending several days visiting his cousins. Doris and Louise Kling back. Nyssa Heights Mrs. Norma Suiter was a patient overnight Saturday at the Holy Ro sary hospital in Ontario where she was taken suffering from lacera tions, bruises and shock as the re sult of an automobile accident near Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Herahey of Nyssa were dinner guests Sunday at the David Beers home. Mrs. W. A. Bybee was hostess to Just-a-Mere Club on Friday. There were seven members and three guests present. Mrs S. P. Bybee had charge of the program. A very de licious lunch was served. There will be no regular meeting on August 24th but there will be a special meeting on August 32nd. at the home of Mrs. S. P. Bybee to discuss plans for the fair. All those that can are urged to attend this meet ing. Mrs. S. P. Bybee, Mrs. W. A. By bee and visiting relatives Mrs. H. E. Chamberlain and Mrs. R. C. Hlck- enlooker spent Saturday in Boise. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Keyser of Eag le. Idaho visited their son J. E. Key ser aand family on Friday. Their grandson Lawrence accompanied thegi home for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Kurtz left for Kansas Thursday accompanied by Mr. Kurtz's mother who has been visiting here for several weeks. Mrs O. J. Kurtz’s brother from Louisiana will meet them there for a visit, the first time the family have all been together for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Roth and Grandma Roth are staying with the Kurtz brothers and helping care for the ranch. Mrs. S. P. Bybee and mother, Mrs. H. E. Chamberlain and Mrs. R. C. Hlckenlooker were in Ontario Tuesday, in Payette on Wednesday, and spent hursday in Caldwell. Mr. and Mrs. Fred OsterCamp, visiLrg here from California were dinner guests Monday at the G. E. Webster heme. Mr. and Mrs. Web ster accompanied them to Boise Monday were they attended the American Leagicn Parade,. Mrs. E. R. Anderson and children spent Friday afternoon with Mrs. Raymond Sager of Apple Valley. Francis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Ford accompanied his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Massey to their home at Freewater where he will remain for the school year. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Corbett and sons had a picnic dinner Sunday and drove to Jordan Valley by way of Succor Creek Canyon. The Women’s Missionary Society of the Nazerene Church of Nyssa was held Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Dan Corbett with 11 women present. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Rogers of Nyssa were Sunday dinner guests at the Roger Tucker home. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Keyser of Pay ette were dinner guests Sunday with their nephew and family J. E. Key ser. Mr. and Mrs E. R. Anderson and children spent Sunday with the Jake Hergect family of Nampa. Visiting relatives from Ogden, Utah at the S. P. Bybee home the past week left for oise and Sun Val ley Monday. Marlene Lake arrived Monday for an indefinite stay at the home of her aunt Mrs. Glen Suiter, Mr. and Mrs. J. E.Keyser and Pete Wakewood were in Ontario Friday evening. Alberta Valley Mrs. Gerrit Stam returned Sun day from the Homemakers camp at Payette Lakes.
