Early Sunday morning a car pulled into Russell Howell's yard and out stepped three men, two of Mrs. Howell’s brothers and Russell's aged father all from Oklahoma T h ey were not so surprised at the younger men but at the older father it was quite a surprise. They made the trip in two days and nights and all went fine, one of the young men brought his wife and three kiddies along. The Pioneers from Nebraska held a picnic at the Cow Hollow Com munity Hall Sunday. There were eighty-one present which represen ted seventeen families all from one town in Nebraska. They had such a grand time that they decided to make an annual affair of it. They elected officers to look after It so next year they should have a real bunch of old timers present. Monday afternoon a car pulled into Elza Niccum’es yard and there was his father age 72 and his uncle and aunt that he had not seen for around fifteen years. "Hie Chalk Butte Grange was well attended Tuesday night. The Pro gram was put on by the Oregon Slope Grange. There were Brother Grangers present from most all over the county. Willow Creek, Vale, Ore gon Slope.. Boulevard, Oregon Trail and Kingman Kolony. . Our mowing machines are becon- ing to us again. W e have hardley finished up with all the first cutting and now we got to start on the sec ond. Shorty Schnider has his second stacked already and Roy Rookstool and Claud Britton will cut right away. Then we will all be tumbling into line so the rush is on again only this time we add the grain harvest in too. Elza Niccum was the first one to harvest any grain in the Hollow. He combined four acres of winter wheat Friday, made around thirty bushels per acre. Claud Britton has cut about five acres and has it stacked. Claud put out five acres of wheat and has re ceived notice that he has over stepp ed his allotment. You should hear him tell about it. Claud came from a dry-farm country where they count their wheat in mile square sections not in acres. Gerald and Francis Hickman re turned to Camp in California Tues day after a nine day furlough spent visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hickman. The Birthday club celebrated E. H Brumbach’s birthday Sunday with a covered dish dinner and a pleasant afternoon of visiting and playing games. Miss Mary Weir gave a very interesting description of her vacation trip, especially her trip to Catalina Island and through Carlsbad Caverns.
