C. q --------- « --------- VALLEYVIEW Henry Derry received a telegram last Tuesday, the 17th. of June, tell ing of the death of his brother at Powell, Wyoming by drowning while he was fishing in a lake. Mr. and Mrs. Derry motored to Wyoming and and attended the funeral returning Wednesday of last week. Melvin Spitz and Virgil Belsle helped Buhl Hickey put up hay In the Lincoln Heights neighborhood last week. Andy Pryor crop last week. harvested his pea Gene Smith left for Nevada to work last week. Shef Whites are enjoying a new car these days. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Wyckoff and daughter of Los Angeles, Calif., ar rived at the A. A. A cool glass of SHELTON’S DAIRY MILK wiU hit the Wyckoff. Sunday they were honored by a picnic dinner at Mr. and Mrs. Russell Cochruna in Nyssa. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs C. C. Wyckoff and family, M r and Mrs A. A. Bratton and Oscar and M r and Mrs. Melvin 8pltz, Mr. and Mrs. Ben McConnell. Mr. and M rs. Ken neth Cochrun, M r . and Mrs. Wilbur Holcomb and son, Miss June Wilson, Leland King and Walter Hahn. Monday the W yckoff and Bratton families went to Frultland, Idaho and picked cherries. Monday evening and Tuesday morning the C. C. Wyckoff family and Tuesday evening took supper with Mr and Mrs Ben McConnell in White Settlement district. Left for home Wednesday morning by way of Pendleton and the Dalis This Is their first visit to Oregon ------------- <9------------- CHALK BUTTE {Lucie M. Case) Ira Poster sold his farm, of 40 acres last week to W. Karrer of Den ver, Colo., Mr. Karrer owned the 40 acres which Joined the Poster place on the south. Ira Price the present renter will continue farming the place as Mr. Karrer has no inten tions of coming to the farm at pres ent. Ira Poster made the purchase of the Veltex filling station in Nyssa last week. Several from this community made trips to Emmett last week for cherries to can. John Vanderpool is building a chimney in his house this week. Si Hoffman of Buena Vista is doing the work. The Adolph Schnleder family visited in the Henry Hintz home Sunday evening. M r and Mrs. D. W yatt of Elgin. Oregon are spending their Vacation in the home of Mrs. W yatt’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oce Schweizer. Visitors in the Cash Turner home Sunday wewe: Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Adams and two children o f Star, Idaho. The Turners and Adams’ were neighbors in Kansas. This is their first visit here in three years, said they hardly recognized the country as being the same because of improvements being made. I Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Bacon and child ren, daughter and son-in-law of W. E. Sweatland who have been here | helping with the farm work returned to their home near Melba Saturday. Mrs. Cash Turner visited Tuesday forenoon with Mrs. John Case while Mr. Turner took cream to Adrian. Boyd Query’s plans were changed Instead of going to California he went to Portland and other points on the coast. Modem Pioneers appreciate very mucr the interest and help shown by the Kawanlan club of Ontario in coming out to Adrian for a dinner. Mrs. Frank Ray entertained at a shower Sunday afternoon in honor of Mrs. Pauline Gowey Mackey a recent bride. Many lovely gifts were received. Bill Kurtz made a trip to Vale Tuesday where he registered for the Selective Service. Carl Hill began digging his po tatoes Tuesday morning. He con tracted two cars for 90c. The young folks of the church en joyed a party at the M. L. Kurtz home Friday night. Twenty nine folks were thankful for the clearing weather so they could play out doors. Since promotion and moving to Ad rian the class attendance has been splended. Trirty one last Sunday. Mr. Jamison was the guest teacher Sunday. Jewell Wilson of the Kolony, Mr and Mrs. R. R. Overstreet Sr., were Sunday guests in the M. L. Judd home. Mr. and Mrs. D. Trtmmell moved from the Judd ranch Sunday. Mr. Trimmell will work in the potatoes. Mr. and Mrs S. O. Tucker of Ten Davis, Idaho and Geo. Tucker Jr., of Boise called at the M. L. Judd and M. L. Kurtz homes Sunday a f ternoon. The Kurtz families are relatives and the Judd’s former neighbors. The first evening church service held at the Adrian Auditorium Sun day was very well attended. The visitors from Owyhee were especially welcome. Young People's Christian Endea vor at 7:30. Church Services at 8:30. You are welcome. Rîvervïew The young people went to Nampa Tuesday evening to a C. E. Pep Rally. After the rally these young people enjoyed a weiner and marsh mallow roast. Those present were: Mary DeLashmutt, Angela, Harriet and Keith Herman, Harold and Kathleen Loe, James and Pete Johnson, John Mutter, Delphia and Lavonne Osborne, Tommy Ogle, Thresa Mutter, Joe and Leon Bai ley, Kenneth Waud and John, Rich ard French.
