Grange meets first and third Fridays at 8:00 p. m. Noeman Mackenzie, Master. Arock Grange Vale Grange Arock grange met in their regular meeting March 12th, with a good attendance. A new grange hall was discussed and a vote showed a large percentage of the members in favor o f it. I t was decided to be gin work on it in the near future. Good reports were given by all committee chairmen. The Worthy Master asked each officer to give April 1st was the tenth anniver sary of the organization of the Vale Grange, and was celebrated with a special program which was given by the women members, each lady pres ent furnishing a number for the program. One of the outstanding numbers being the grange history for the past year given by Mrs. Alice Fifer, who keeps a record of all grunge activities and presents them at the annual birthday meeting. Mrs. Ed Charles was in charge ot the program. She also furnished a large grange birthday cake, fittingly decorated, which was cut and served to all those present. It was also the time for the birthday party of al. members who have had birthdays since January 1. A special table was set for all these members and they were served with a lovely birthday cake baked especially for them by Ora Russell. The remainder of the refreshments were served by the (men under the direction of Bill Jacobsen. This was the time when the blocks for our name quilt were turned in and a goodly sum has already been realized. This is one of the projects o f the H. E. C. ladies and is being furthered to raise funds to sponsor a 4-H club boy and girl at summer school this coming summer. Balloting for State officers was one o f the business matters taken up. Managers Cow Hollow CLARENCE NICCUM Plans for Pomona Grange which will be held at Harper April 23, were announced, and all Pomona mem bers were urged to make an effort to attend. Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Wykle of Boulevard Grange were present as visitors. E. Howell. Mrs. Wilson's brother and his fam ily are visiting from Oklahoma. A reclamation crew brought in a draw line to Cow Hollow on Monday to put in the head gates for the two units above the siphon. Cow Hollow is making progress, Only thirteen months ago the first trailer house was pulled into the sage covered valley. And now the sage has given place to cleared fields ready for spring planting and dotted with comfortable homes of many happy families. Mr. George Gobrel is on the sick list this week. Mr. George Gocbral and Mr. Clar ence Niccum were business visitors in Notus on last Thursday, to three bummer lambs for which Tire Howell girls have fallen heir they are more than grateful. A R C A D IA NEW S and Old Age Assistance The improvement in the condition o f the State’s finances resulting from better control and management o f expenditures, made possible the enactment o f an old age assistance plan two veal's before the date required by the Federal Law and, later, the reduction o f age from 70 years to 05 years. As a result Oregon ranks twelfth among the States in the matter o f payments for old age as sistance, and tenth in tne ratio o f beneficiaries to population. This has been achieved without additional burdens being thrown upon the prop erty o f the taxpayers. Through the efforts o f the Governor, and the cooperation o f the legislature, the Unemploy ment Compensation Commission was created to represent the State in the matter o f cooperation with federal authorities in the administration of the several Social Security Acts. Through these Federal and State Acts the worker will find se curity in years to come. R e-Elect-O ovem ar-M artin At the regular meeting of the I. O. N. Grange a very enjoyable and instructive time was spent in drilling and floor work as well as practice of the ritual work. State officers were voted on at this meeting. Mrs. Maude Haylett will have charge of degree work April 15th, when the third and fourth degrees will be conferred. Baldridge Implement CONFERENCE OF 4-II LEADERS A three-day conference of Exten sion workers and 4-H local leaders was held this week at the experi ment station In Union Oregon, with headquarters In the Union Hotel. H. C. Seymour, state club leader, opened the assembly meeting on Wednesday and Introduced to the group. D. E. Richards, superintend ent of the experiment station, and H. G. Smith, assistant county agent of Union county. These two men ex tended a cordial greeting to all of those attending. A L. G. Allen, assistant state lead er in charge of Livestock also said a word of greeting. T h e womens program was directed by Miss Helen Cowgill, assistant state leader and in charge of the girls work in Oregon. She was as sisted by Mrs. Louise Harwood, home demonstration agent, from Wasco county, and Mis FYances Clinton, home demonstration agent from Umatilla county. This program covered work in Styles and materials for cotton school dresses, canning, cooking pointers, selection of materials, seams and edge finishes for outer garments, tailored finishes for wool dresse and suits, technique of food preparation, scoring, judging and demonstrations, as well as a round table discussion each day. The men's work was carried on at the experiment station, some of the things o f interest on their program were livestock feeding and manage ment practices, fairs and special j contests, crops in the 4-H program, club tours and projects, field trips j The last two were led by LeRoy C I Wright, from Sherman county and C.
