HUMAN TEST TUBES— some people will subject themselves to W HY any new ‘cure all’, is a mystery that can only be answered by a psyco-analyst. As a proof of this, one has only to recall the recent death of fifty-seven persons, the result of taking a deadly ‘elixir’ of sulphanilamide. Sulphanilamide in-it- self, is not dangerous, when taken ACCORD ING TO A DOCTORS ORDER. Further tightening of the pure food laws is again called to mind. Any manufacturer of a product that has a merit will not hesitate to comply with any law, that will protect the public from their own gullibility. It would seem logical to suppose that any one seeking the path to good health would consult a doctor to lead them on that path, instead of tak ing as gospel truth the statement contained on a label. There is no fountain of youth to which we can take our ills—but there is alleviation from suffering and cures—if we will go to those that are devoting their lives in the service of human- ity.—YOUR DOCTOR. --------------------------------- * --------------------------------- PROBLEMS BEFORE ORGANIZED LABOR— the A. F. of L. and the C.I.O. will be H OW able to compromise their differences, is a problem that will require some real thought. That the two organizations realize that the cause of labor is lost, unless they come to some under standing, is evident to all labor leaders, and the rank and file, too. Without taking sides as to who is right, in their method of organizing labor, it is our opin ion that back of this fight for unification of the aims of the two organizations, is the same pol itical maneuvering that takes place in any or ganization. Mr. Green is not going to surrender his leadership, while Mr. Lewis has demonstrat ed that he is thoroughly convinced that his meth od of unionization is right. Both men should consider a third party in this fight—namely the American Public. Constant breaking of contracts will not endear the public to any cause, no matter how justifable the cause is. And the C.I.O. started out with a series of broken contracts to employers. Perhaps on this issue Mr. Green could give Lewis a few pointers in picking leaders for sub-ordinate unions that will abide by the constitution of his organiza tion. Unauthorized strikes do more to discredit a union than perhaps any one thing. It is to be hoped that jurisdictional rights of these two groups will be settled, and that the American Laborer can continue to be held in the high esteem that he has in the nast, by the faith ful performance of contracts urawn by his rep resentative—Organized Labor. ---------------------------------- + --------------------------------- ANOTHER TAILSPIN? is much speculation among states T HERE men and editorial writers as to the cause of depressions. They have been recurriiig with monotonous regularity for the past sixty or sev enty yeas. About every five years on the aver age, we have a depression and spend five years recovering from it. It has come to be accepted by our statesmen as something in the light of mani- fetation of divine wrath, something like bubonic plague and yellow fever were once regarded by the superstitious and it has been generally agreed among our lawmakers that nothing could be done about it. Now however, there is getting to be a faint glimmering of a suspicion that it is not an act of God, but the bone headedness of our statesmen. In one word .the cause of depres sions is ‘surplus’. There are contributing causes, but they mostly grow out of the fundamental causes of producing more than the people have money to buy. It is certainly an anomally and a strong condemnation of our industrial system, that the more we have in many cases, the worse condition we are in, but such is the case. The Hoover administration had a 100,000 bush els of wheat surplus and it hung like an incubus over the persident’s head, although thousands of people were hungry for that same wheat. We have just spent seven years in getting over the worst depression in our history and if >ve follow the usual proceedure, we will begin accumulat ing another surplus and at the end of about five the first time In nearly three years Nein, 0.21 acres in Sec. 24-20-46. 10 , 1 few minutes to spare but the pro- | that we have shown a reduction and gram that Is being broadcast has 26, 37. $1. am satisfied that enforcement Pete Dear to Christina Nein, all another half-hour to run.
