2 THURSDAY, MAR. 13, 1958 THE EAGLE, VERNONIA, ORE. TOPICS OF THE TOWN Floyd Shafer of Salem spent Sunday here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. D. Shafer and in the afternoon took his father out for a drive. Friends of Mr Shafer were also happy to see him down town last Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Homar Fuller and George Miner visited Sunday at Clatska nie with their father, Roy Miner. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Kamholz and sons were at Forest Grove Sunday to see Mr. and Mrs Harry Ford who arrived home Saturday Mam a vacation in California and «Tleaea. Tlx y first spent sever al weeks at San Clemente after valich they dove to Tijuana and from them flew to Mexico City. While there they visited the pyra mids and others points of inter- est, then went to Acapulco and Taxco before returning to Ti juana to pick up their car for the trip honse. Mr. and Mrs Gorge Johnson were in Portland Sunday and called on his sister, Mrs. Pearl Olson who has not been well, and also visited Mrs. Nona Lank- ston at Emanuel hospital where she is undergoing treatment for phlebitis. Mr. and Mrs. Omar Poynter spent from Thursday of last week to Sunday visiting at Otter Rock with her son, Robert Tindall, and his family. Mrs. Mathilde Bergerson was a delegate to the OEA representa tive council meeting in Portland Friday and Saturday of last week. Mrs. George Wells returned home Wednesday of last week from Portland where she had undergone major surgery at the Physicians and Surgeons hospital after which she spent a week re cuperating at the home of her daughter before coming home. Eugene Dove, high school su perintendent, spent the first part of this week at San Francisco at tending the annual meeting of the National Education associa tion. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Bolmeier and Lynn will spend this week end in Salem and attend the an nual Freshman Glee at Willa mette university where their daughter Gretchen is a student. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Nichols and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Vaipiani at tended the Marian Anderson con cert at the civic auditorium in Portland Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. George Koski and family are all home again fol lowing their recent accident in Portland. The boy returned to school this week. Mr. Koski is wearing a cast on his knee and will not return to work for a while yet. Judi-Faye Horn was honored Sunday on the occasion of her seventh birthday with a dinner at which guests were an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Elwell from Rainier. Judi was just re- covering from chicken-pox which ruled out a party for this year. Billy Horn has been quite ill with chicken-pox this week. Mr, and Mrs. Joe Lawler re turned last Friday from Chicago where they had visited for four weeks with their daughter, Mrs. Karl Anderson, and her family. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Cassel and son are expected here this week end from Hawaii for a visit with his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. James Johns, and his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cassel, while Dallas is on naval leave. M t . and Mrs. Clayton Aldrich are moving today to Roseburg where he will work for a ply wood company. Four-H club summer school dates just released from the state 4-H club office indicate a change from dates released earlier this year. The corrected dates are June 16-22, four days shorter than it has been in the past. It was an nounced that the cost of opera tions prompted the change and shortening of the summer school session was decided instead of raising the cost of scholarships.
