American Legion Auxiliary Iti DECEMBER 26, 1957: The eyes of the Elite ware focused on Vernon a the week of December 16 thru 19 when officers of the state police and from Mulino- mah, Washington and Columbia counties joined forces to run down clues which led to finding the body of Robert Holloway, Portland, in a well on the old George Johnson place not far from highway 47 a few mils from Vernonia. APRIL 11, 1957: The Vernonia high school band took sweepstake honors in the paint-up, clean-up, íix-up parade which drew over 25 entries and was witnessed by a large crowd of townspeople. Although weather • was cold, rains held off to make the evert in every way a success. In addition to the parade, another good contribution to the campaign was made Satur- day with the placing of trash cans in strategic places by the Rainbow girls.
