LOGGERS GET
REVENGE TUES.
Vernonia gained revenge from
the Lewis and Clark college fresh
men of Portland by defeating
them 38-36 Tuesday, February 11.
The Loggers were defeated by the
frosh the previous night.
The last few minutes of the
game were action-packed, with
the lead score teetering from one
side to the other. With one min
ute remaining in the game, the
score wa3 tied 36-36 and the
“Mayor of Pittsburg” Don Parker
made a field goal to put the Log
gers out in front 38-36.
The freshmen made more field
goals than the Loggers, but foul
shots gave Vernonia the long
score. Lewis and Clark
made only two free throws out of
12 while the Loggers made six
out of 13.
Fouling was light compared to
some previous games the Loggers
have participated in. Vernonia
committeed 10 fouls while the
frosh made 13.
Don Cline, local center, had to
leave the game in the third quar
ter because of an injured knee.
Ken Anderson came into the
Vernonia spotlight by going on a
scoring spree and making 13
points.
Vernonia was behind' two points
at the end of the first quarter,
11-9 and also the half-time score
was in favor of the freshmen,
18-16, but the Loggers retrenched
and the third quarter ended with
them ahead, 26-22. The Vernonia
five had a two-point margin over
the college men at the final
whistle, 38-36.
