Arrangements were made for a joint installation with the Legion to be held at the hall on Wednes day, October 2nd. Committees in charge are: refresh ments, Isobel Culbertson, Blanche King and Lona Weidman; decora tion, Inez Powell and Dell Preston; entertainment, Bess Nichols; in stallation arrangements, Mary Jane Shultz and Bessie Lincoln. Mrs. Francis Crampton of Os wego, the district preident, und Mrs. Laura Goode, department pres- ident, and many other department officers will be present to preside during the installation. The Auxiliary received a certifi cate to be presented to Joanne Nichols. Junior auxiliary members, reaching the age of 18, are pre sented these awards verifying elig ibility for senior membership. Up to date the American Legion Auxiliary has a total membership of 16 for the doming year. The Navy plate, which is on dis play at Nance’s Pharmacy, will be awarded on the night of installation. Mrs. Floy Hammack of Chandler, Oklahoma, formerly of Vernonia, was made very welcome at this meeting. Mrs. Mary Jane Schultz presented her with a 15-year con tinuous service pin. What happens when a presumably long-dead vri e suddenly re-appears to confront her newly married hus band gives rise to a melange of hilarious complications in the roman tic comedy, "My Favorite Wife,” co-etarring Irene Dunne and Cary Grant, with Randolph Scott and Gail Patrick in support. "In "My Favorite Wife,” Miss Dunne is cast as the wife supposed ly lost at sea who returns home on the very night her husband is leav ing on his honeymoon wit*, his second wife. Cary Grant plays the bewildered husband, while Gail Pat rick is seen as the bride. Further complications develop in the plot when the husband linds out that his first wife was isolated for seven years on a desert paradise with a handsome explorer, who, after they are rescued, wants tn marry her. News of the Theatre 50 million bushels of wheat end up in the form of bread each year in toasters, and 950 million pounds of butter are spread on the toast thus made. "FLIGHT ANGELS” NEW SKY DRAMA— “Flight Angels,” a film of the skyways with a brand new twist will make its local debut at the Joy this Friday. The Warner Bros, picture tells the story of airline hostesses, a theme which has never before been shown on the screen. It’s power-drive drama from start to finish. Dennis Morgan, an ace pilot, is grounded when his eyesight starts to fail. He is persuaded to accept a job as teacher in the school for airline hostesses. The climax of the film is reached when Morgan makes a test flight in a new Stratosphere plane despite his poor eyesight. Legion, Auxiliary To Install Officers— The Vernonia Post of the Amer ican Legion and the American Le gion Auxiliary are to install of i- cers for the year 1940-41 on Octo ber 2, next Wednesday, at 8 o’clock. Installation ceremonies will' be held at the Legion hall. Friends of the Legion and the Auxiliary and members are are in vited to attend and make the ac quaintance of new officers for the coming year. A personal invitation is not necessary in order to be welcomed to the installation. WMS to Hold October Meeting— Annual Guest Day will be ob served by the Evangelical W. M. S. at the church on Wednesday, Octo ber 2. Each member is requested to bring a guest and dishes for pot luck linch, to be served at 12:30. During the afternoon the mem bers of the society will present a program including a book review of the opening chapters of the new study book on China, special music, and readings. Former members of the society are especially invited to visit this meeting.
