VERNONIA EAGLE, VERMONIA, OREGON THURSDAY, JUNE 13, 192» / ---- “ - * CAUCEL SCOT -TAAO FIGHT From r ige 6 i J uuc instance and in genera! handled himself in big league style in the field, as well as be ing the star at the bat, getting a triple and a single in five trips to the plate. Greenman, playing his first game at first base cer tainly did a good job of it. He accepted eleven chances, many of them very difficult and only bobbled once. Vernonia started things in the third inning when they scored three markers on three bingles. Black started the bombardment in this canto with a eiuale and moved dowii to second ?ase on Shorty Laird’s sacrifice. Larry Marshall, who by the way also performed nicely afield, brought Black home with a Texas leaguer back of second base. Linn sacri 8 TO 2 ficed him to second from where 6 he scored when Cornell was un toward the able to hold McGregor’s tap to foul fly in short. Mac promptly stole sec ond base and came home on Taylor’s single. The next tally came in the fifth when Marshall was safe on an error by the pitcher. He later romped home when McGregor socked a three bagger to right-center. Four more were added in the sixth on singles by Lyons, Black and McGregor and errors on the part of the Eastern and Western outfit who were showing signs of weakening. Next Sunday the locals go to Cathlamet for a game over there and then the following Sunday they play WestimLer at Vernon ia. This game will probably draw good as it should create con siderable local interest. Westim- ber reports they have a strong team and are out to win. The box Bcore of last Sunday’s game follows: Eastern and Western Lumber Co. It may be interesting to many to know what the average gate is, well some $160 or so, now dividing this around on percen tage among some 8 scrappers, it will be eas yto see that if the boys who fight the main event get $25 a piece they are indeed fortunate. evei ing in which he is signed up for, or any other worthy excuse, that he should be barred to fight in any ring in the state for one year.
