School was closed here on Thurs- day as the teacher, Miss Turner, wa* •ick. Jim McMullen and Mrs. Backman attended the show in Vernonia oil* evening last week. We are sorry to receive news of the death of Mrs. Chas. Hill. She has been sick for a long time. Mr. Hill has our sympathy. The school meeting of the Natal district was held last Saturday. It wa* voted that the next meeting will be held one week later, that the usual day being on the 3rd Sun day in November instead of th* second Sunday. This will be easier on the members to attend the Pomona grange and also their own meetings. City Marshal Kelly has had sev. eral violator* of the curfew law be fore Judge Reasoner this week and says he intends to see that there will be a whole lot more if they do not obey the curfew law. November 26 will be Thanksgiv ing Day, so designated by President Coolidge in his proclomation given out this week. We have plenty to be thankful for. McCoy, who Mr. Tuttle hs returned from Port land to work for the Berkenfield Lumber company. Mr*. Iler and daughter Louise re turned home from eastern Oregon, where they huve been visiting with relative* for a few days. Î W. C. T. U The W. C. T. U. held heir 43rd annual convention at Hood River, Oct. 20. 21, 22 and *23, with a lareg' attendance of delegates about every was represented. On Tuesday even ing the Hoo'd River uni;on furnished an elaborate banquet. There were 175 plates served. On Wednesday the Hood River apple growers asso ciation furnished the convention attendants with several boxes of Hood River apples, which was very much appreciated. On Thursday the good people* of that city furnished cars and took the delegates out to see the valley and orchards and fl round by Billy Sunday’s farm home which was a treat to most of us. Pierce, the man who has the work at heart, spoke Thursday evening on the crime wave,disrespect for the law and moving pictures, he said, was the cause of so many crimes. The moving pictures teach them just how to cotpmit them, and boose promotes them on. C. T. Webb superintendent of the Children’s Farm Home at Corvallis, gave an ad dress and said that was one of the greatest things the W. C. T. U. had done in Oregon, by furnishing a home for the homeless children over the state. You have plenty if time to get to th* 1st show at night and get home a little after 9 o’clock as the law re quires. . In th* future thia law will be strictly enforced and if you are out after eurfew hours you must be ac companied by your parents or guardian, and a guardian don't mean your beaux at that.
