EASING THE BURDEN OF STATE TAXATION Banker Pointe Out Benefits of Community Property Sys tem In Some States. immunity from state InheritanM taxes likewise now extends to ’com munity property’ of non-resident mar ried persons, who hereafter take up their legal residence In the state. This puts ’community property* In a more favorable position regarding death taxes than exists In any other state In the Union, with the possible exoeptlon of the other cpmmunity property states. This extension of ths exemption will add 15 per cent to property In the state coming under this deflnlton. which means that ap proximately 80 per cent of all prop erty probated In California will enjoy the lightest death taxes tn America. "To illustrate. the following exam ple of a man survived by a wife and two minor children Is computed, the estate consisting of ‘community prop erty’ all left by will to the wife and children. One-half of suc|i property would go under the law to the ylfo without any death taxes, and the other llalf only would be subject to both state Inheritance And Federal estate taxes. Since that time the laws bare been ¿hanged, Mr. Roseberry deciares, so that the figures then given do not correctly represent the present sltua-« tlon. He aays: "Ever since its admission Cal I for nta has had-the ‘community property1 system.
