Individual house cleaning is all right, and not one house-wife should post pone it for any reason. But we can’t brighten things as they should be if we look after private property and iet public improvements go by the board. So why not have a public meeting, as we note in ex changes they are doing in other communities, a sort of an open forum where every fellow can tell of improve ments he would like to see made. There are streets and sidewalks in various parts of Vernonia de manding urgent attention. Some of us know where a few of the bad places are, but none know the location of all of them. Then why not have a friendly town meeting, where every fellow can “speak his peace” and tell just what he would like to see done, as well as how he thinks it could or should be done. We are not contemplating anything that would mean voting an extra expense on our citizens. We are merely insisting that if we get together and talk over needed im provements we will quickly find a way to get them at tended to. The result would be, we frankly believe, the greatest clean-up season and the best job of towm improvement in the history of the community. Isn’t there someone public-spirited enough to take hold right here and arrange for a public meeting in a convenient place at the very earliest date possible? Our dear friend, Paul Robinson of Vernonia is mak ing a strong plea for the Crown-Willamette people to locate their new proposed paper and pulp mill in his city. May we remind him that we have heard it gently whisp ered that he has some competition for their location. In fact it is noised around that the matter has sifted down to three locations, of which Clatsop County holds two of them.—Warrenton News. Very well, brother, if the proposed paper and pulp mill concludes not to build in Vernonia we will take pleasure in “Pulling for Warrenton.” “Better Business,” the splendid publication spons ored by the State Chamber of Commerce in stating op portunities, needs and wants of various Oregon cities, failed to mention Vernonia. It could, with no exagera tion, chronicled Vernonia as wanting a paper mill, a furniture factor}’, bath house and lodge hall.
