LEA From Telegram: Portland, July, 21. (To. the editor of the Telegram) In your paper we note an article bearing the headlines, Oregon Cheese Shipped South and Local Markets Slighted." A. 11. Lea, of tho Union Meat Company, makes the statement that not a pound of Tilla mook cheese is on the Portland market, and that IHper cent Is being Kent to California. Now, we love cheese, and of all cheese on earth we love Tilla mook cheese the best, and wo have never known the time we could not purchase it on Portland market at re tail, never less than 20 cunta and more times 25 cents, and at one time last winter wo paid 30 cents, and bo did our neighbors, with never a kick or com plaint, except to wish they owned a Tillamook cow. Mr. Lea tells us tho price is ll-12c. and 12Jc. In San Fran cisco, and we feur he has got things mixed, for a little way down the story wo havo him quote it 17c. and 18c. in Tillamook, which it about right and wo will contract for all Tillamook cheese delivered m tan Franctsc-j Jor J5c. The reported that they had performed the duties for which they were appointed and that the proceedings had at said meeting had been published in the '1 illarnuok papers. A number of ladies representing the Artisans met with the Council and ask that the Council act as a reception com mittee on behalf of the City,; and also asked that the City decorate for the occasion. Mrs. Smith on behalf ot the Artisans stated that a Motion Piclure company was coming with the excur sion to take pictures of the event. Tho matter was referred to the Committee on Wavs and Means. Tho Artisans ex tended an invitation to this Committee and also to any other members of the Council, to be present at a meeting to bo held at the Commercial Club, Wed nesday, August Sth to make final ar rangements for the excursion. The Street Committee reported in regard to repair of 3rd and 5th Streets that they had made a previous estimate of gravel necessary to complete this work and that this could be used as u working basis. A motion was made, seconded, and carried that the Recor der be instructed to advertise for bids, ior tho delivery of gravel on the streets in the City. Said notice to be published in each of the City papers. Tho bids to bo made at a certain price per yard, and all bids to be filed with tho City Recorder on or before Friday August 7th, 1914.
