The firemen responded with chemical extinguishers and put out the blase. The origin of the Ore was peculiar. The blacksmith had a can which he used for pouring wa- ter into the slack tub. By mistake he got hold of the wrong can and shot the tub with gasoline, adding more water later. He then used a piece of paper to light bis pipe from tire forge and toesed the stUl light ed paper over his shoulder, when It fell into the slack tub. and then things happened The gasoline bias ed up and the flames got inu> tlitsr woodwork around the forge He then phoned to the department to bring down a chemical extinguish er. The department responded with two, and got the fire out. Saturday last, the sun shone through a rift In the clouds and Illuminated the mountain range north of Wilson river for a ft-w me rnents. Against the blue atmosphere of the range a terra cotta field or frost-killed fern shone half way up ' the hills, and added to this was ih* gray of the alders and the green or the firs, forming a pretty picture of combined tints, that com pel I -d ad miration from the lover of nature.
