The savings idea is just as worthy, just as necessary to business success to-day as it was in 1740, but the methods have advanced during that time. I We now have the most modern savings convenience invented and respectfully in vite the people of Tillamook Couuty to call and see them. r In brief, let us tell you that it is a small HOME SAVINGS BANK which registers, or indicates, at all times, THE EXACT AMOUNT OF MONEY which has been placed in it. The amount of money is plainly shown at all times, the amount cf each kind of coin— Nickles, dimes, quarters and so on. The thing that stimulates saving is to see the amount grow, to see it every day, right before your eyes. With one of our new banks this feature is the big thing and these banks have proven very popular wherever they have been placed. GET ONE THE FIRST TIME YOU ARE IN TOWN, especially if you have children, for you know the adage, “ as the twig is bent, so is tree inclined,” and the children will take unusual interest in these bauks be cause THEY ARE SOMETHING NEW AND UNIQUE. Engineers Recommend 1 hat Tillamook Pay Half of Favorable Action on Nehalem Cost. Harbor Improvement Is The River and Harbor Board of Thought Probable. Army engineers have approved the report of Major Morrow on the pro posed improvement of Tillamook liny and have recommended to the Secretary of War that an expendi ture of $814,000 be marie for the con struction of the nortli jetty mid for dredging and other work, looking to the creation of a 20-foot channel. The Board recommends that half the cost of this improvement be borne by the local community and half by the Federal Government. W ashington , Aug. 8—Details of the recommendation of the Army Engineering Board on theprojxjsed improvement of Tillamook Bay show that the cost of the north jetty will lie $Y>, duo. Iti addition to thia amount it will coat >120,000 to dredge a 10 foot channel to Hay City, in stead of a 211 foot one, and $10,00 is allowed for contingencies. The Hoard recommends that tie- fore any appropriation is made by the Government, the community must agree to pay half the cost of this work, or $407,000; and also n.ust bind itself to dredge a nine- loot channel from Bay I ity to Till amook City, anil have this channel completed within two years. If the community meets these terms, the Board recommends that Congress appropriate $200,000 cash, and author.ze a continuing con tract for the remaining $207.00) of the Government's share of the cost. It is strongly believed that Major Morrow, Corps of Engineers, U. S. A., will compile n favorable rejKirt on the propobd Government aid for the improvement of Nehalem Bay, Bar and River, as a result of a meeting held at hiaoffice yesterday but as such matters are not public until passed on at Washington, no intimation has been given out.
