There is a greater demand every year upon the County Court for improved roads and more bridges, and if the Court was in a position to do everything that was wanted it would require three times as much money. Every road district in the county is clamoring to have their roads improved or for opening of new one*. This we take as a most health) sigil, for it shows a spirit of progress t hi ougliout the county and the Counts Court is Htriving to meet the demands of the people fur better high whvh and more >»f them when they levied 8 mills for road purposes Good roads cannot be built on hot air. nevertheless there are those who clamor for better roads who* beef" like blaze» about taxes. That is most inconsistent, for the timber owners pa> 73 percent—the assessor thinks it is a little more—of the road tax. If, under these conditions, th«* county tails to im- prove the roads the next few years, then ¡1 will be on account of those who per petuallv ‘roast*’ the County Court for levying so large a sum of money lor iwl work The snap shot man is not hi love with our present system of road build ing, hut it ih futile to argue that point now for the reason that s> luanj Ulen expect lo get work on the roans hi the coiiulv. some of who aie phisicall) unfit to do road work, hence the super visors do not get as much wo' k done as it would from a gang of robust men specially adapted and selected for Ihal purpose. It is the system that is wrong if the l oad tax is squandered, and it is up to the supervisors to insist up* a» a go<ai <lay’>|w(>rk being performed. Road work needs pushing like every olhei line ol business, )et there is a tendency with some men who work on the roads to do as little work as poshibk and who waste considerabl* tune talking or discussing this or that Nid»j«c'. Every supervisor who has his exes open is awaie of this fact, yet lhev me leluctant to interfere or put a stop lo it I mcuuhc it is their friends or neighbors.
