lieve, than I have ever labored before,
and my lite has been one of work. I lit­
erally worked dav and night. But I suc­
ceeded and made good. I secured a
strong position and good committees in

abandoned all hopes ot involving me in
any violations of law have resorted to
slander, scandal and vilification. Everv
expedient that malice could prompt or
malevolence suggest ha** been resorted
to. The gutters have been sounded and
the sewers drained in order that some
vile charge, however stale, gross and
improbable, might be brpugbt forth to
serve the cravings of insatiable malice.
But I have confidence in the people, in
their sense of justice and fairness. 1
shall appeal to them and I shall go be­
fore them and ask that they place the
stamp of their disapproval on the in
famous methods of this band of con­
scienceless conspirators
