expedient that malice could prompt or

to. The gutters have been sounded and
the sewers drained in order that some
vile charge, however stale, gross and
improbable, might be brpugbt forth to
serve the cravings of insatiable malice.
But I have confidence in the people, in
their sense of justice and fairness. 1
shall appeal to them and I shall go be
fore them and ask that they place the
stamp of their disapproval on the in
famous methods of this band of con
scienceless conspirators
