TILLAMOOK HEADLIGHT Editorial Snap Shots. Caring for the insane came high. » * * Out oi the democratic wreck in this county last month, P. W. Todd man aged to save himself. st * * "We’re going to commerce building in six months !" Rats. How many times have we heard that before ? * « » It will be noticed that the proposed coast road promoters have tied up the strategical point getting to the beach at Garibaldi. * * M Oak might now demand a recount in Iioquarton precinct, for it might add to or take from the eight votes he got in that precincts with Rollie, the booster buster, behind him. * * * Tillainookers appear to lie wanting to scrap. Is it the language or the atmos- phere or the scandals that are responsi- ble ? Anyhow, it gives the newly elected justice and constable something to do. r: * * By way of a suggestion, we think it would be a good plan to exhibit as much of the exhibits at the county fair as pos- bible at the state fair at Salem in Sep tember. If we’re going to advertise the county, don’t stop at a county fair. « * * * * So the judges and clerks of election counted P W. Todd out in counting the votes, not that we belieye any of them did so intentionally. But don’t let it happen again, gentlemen. Take more time in counting the votes in future and the mistakes will be few and far between. •> •4 * * * Here is an item of news we wish to re fer to the gentlemen of the Tillamook De velopment League. There are 90 less C lildren of school age in the county than a . this time last year. Establish a few more toll roads and there will be another decrease. * * * The county court has appointed, at a salary of $39 a month, a janitor for the new court house. It ought to have been stipulated also that he act as deputy sieriff about court time, and in that way cut off some of the expenses of deputy sheriffs. * * * Charley Reynolds is the slickest politi- c an of the whole crowd. W. E. South* wick was elected coroner and his bond W is appro veil on Thursday, Next day he got cold feet and resigned, and Key- nolds was re-appointed coroner, Own up, Charley, and tell how you managed it. * * * There is one thing very noticeable in counting the votes after an election, and that is the numlier of persons who vote only the first column on the ballot and fail to vote for any of the candidates in the seconil column The ballots should in future be printed in one column or n blank space about nil inch wide should divide the two columns This, we believe, would be an improvement in the ballot. •* $ « * * I 4 » the bridge left to a vote of the peojlff of ay crop Nehalem, and the Headlight wanted the j Mr. Gladwell went to Tillamook toll road question left to a vote of the I Monday with a load of cheese. Mr. E. P- Mills, who has been working people of the county, and as this w as not done, two matters of importance have for Andrew Auderson at Hebo, is home not been settled as they might have been. lor haying. He has taken of troubles to contend with, spring from his defeat cheerfully and Mr. Todd is to a torpid liver and blockaded bowels, be congratulated. We may say this for unless you awaken them to their pro per action with Dr. King's New Life Mr Haberlach, that he is still a repub Pills ; the pleasantest aud most effective lican and loyal to the republican party, cure for Constipation. They prevent and if those who claim to be republicans Appendictis and tone up the system. 25c. had been true to their party he would al Chas. I. Clough, Drug Store. have had a plurality of 400 votes How. ever that may be, Mr. Haberlach will, no doubt, be a candidate tor the same office two years hence, for his action is commendable in not quibbling and pro longing the contest, which came to a sudden end and before it was completed, as soon as he was convinced he did not have a majority of the votes. He could have prolonged the contest for several months, but it would not have been right to have done so. Mr. Haberlach is a cheerful looser, and belongs to that faction of the republican party in Tilla. mook county, no matter whether they win out or loose in an election, they are republican standpatters. For that rea son Mr. Haberlach isn’t a quitter, nei ther will he become a republican sore head because he was not elected, like some of the brethren did who failed in the primary election. * * * We have a job we want to dispose of, not that there is any intrinsic value in it. It will do for some of the political sore heads, but we don’t want them to all speak at once for the job It is the office of political scapegoat that we want to get shot of, for we don’t know how we came into possession of it. No sooner is as election over in Tillamook when the defeated office seekers and peanut politi. cians want to vent their spleen, and it is upon the defenceless head of the Head light manjthat everything is laid after they have unbossoined themselves. If a person fails to get a nomination, we are accused of defeating him ; if we pur posely refrain from even mentioning the name of an aspirant, we’re called a con temptible cuss ; if we happen to boost a candidate, the one who is defeated gives us hades and wants to do us up in busi ness ; it we happen to roast public offi. cials, we are called the biggest ’‘knock cr” and grafter in the county ; if we open fire and expose grafters, or want to open up the county, we’re accused of injuring the county ; and because wc won’t be run by the old time rule or ruin faction, we’re the biggest rascal in the county. In the late election, again have we been made the political scapegoat, but as we don’t want to pack all the political sins after every election, were will raise no kick if someone else would prefer carry ing the load._________________ BOULDER CREEK.
