This is ac counted for from the fact that the people throughout the state appreciate fully his policy in holding stute funds on deposit ill the counties wherein they are collected, instead of drawing them to one common center, which has been the custom here tofore. * * * We heartily agree with Bro. Rollie that Marshal Lucy is not doing his duty. He failed to arrest the Herald staff for the “mix-up’’ in that office this week and in the marshal’s failure to arrest the “blind pig” and the conglomeration of editors who have the squeaking pig by the tail trying to boost their little shotes into public office. It’s really too bad that the marshal is not doing his duty. * * * For governor, Dr. James Withycombe, the farmer’s candidate and the farmer’s friend, is deserving of the farmer’s sup port. Withycombe is no politician with a lot ot politicians backing him, but a practical farmer engaged in experimental work in the interest ot the farmer. He would make a good governor, and Ins administration would be an improve, nient over that of previous governors. * * * There is going to be a grand jury called on Monday, so we are informed, and this is to inform those who are conscious of wrong doing to look out. W hen it was noised abroad that the last jury was to be called some men took to the woods and others—who had been given the tip —hurried out of the county .consequently the county lost quite a bit of “dough” in tines. * * * This is what is making Judge Conder whine. He leased the Nentucca toll roads last year for eleven months, so as to get another whack at them before lie went out ot office. Now he is advertising for bids to lease them for five years. Why 11 months at onetime and five years at ano ther time ? Surely the people are wide awake enough to see through the scheme. It is certainly too bad that the Headlight man should jump in and expose the whole thing. * * * We must thank our contemporary for the tree advertising that it gave us this week, hut our esteem friend, Rollie W. Watson, was so rattled that hr got the article all mixed up tliut it had a tangle fool, “blind pig," inside out, upside down Appearance Was the Herald staff on a jamharre ? It looks that way ? But we will let Rollie down light this week, for lie's such a nice fellow — when he's not nil mixed up and tangled up mid ready to explode. It wasn't the loss of the “blind pig" that ti iend Rollie cared about at all, but it was that fellow Baker getting oil to it. * * * It is to lie hope that the people of Ore gon will drive a nail, and drive it home good and hard, in fonatlinn Bourne’s political coffin so that he will never fig ure in Oregon politics again.
