Steele, of Nehalem, were in the city on Wednesday. Mrs. Sturgeon is in San Francisco this week selecting the latest styles in millin ery and dress trimmings. Mrs. Lynch will not accept any more checks that her son, Walter, issued while he was in the store. * Rev. John Looser is expecting his wife and family from California, and will go out on the next boat to meet them. A subscription list is being circulated for the purpose of raising enough money to purchase a bell for the U.B. church. B. L. Eddy will leave on the next boat for a tew weeks vacation, and may go as far as California and visit his brother. Rev. E. D. Allen will preach on Sunday morning at Bay City and in the evening in the Presbyterian church of this city. Washington's birthday was observed in this city on Monday by the public school being closed in honor of the father of our country. Captain Benson and his men came up from Garibaldi on Saturday, leaving the wrecked lumber schooner Gem on the beach for the angry breakers to demolish. Chester Holden, who has been in the hospital in Portland for several weeks, is so much improved in health that he is expected in on the next boat with his wife. Captain J. B. Wetherell, who came in last year and an effort was made to form a company for the purpose of boring for oil on the Hannenkrat place, came in on the steamer on Wednesday with other paities with the object of looking over the prospects and with the idea of com- n>encing work. District Attorney Hart and Deputy District Attorney Botts have come to the conclusion that the 1902 tax bst will have to be re-published to make it valid, consequently the sale advertised for Fri day will not take place. Severance has called a meeting of the republican county com mittee for next Wednesday for the pur pose of deciding upon the dates to hold the primaries and county convention. There was no mail on Monday, owing to the horses being played out in the mountain division, and it was near noon on Tuesday before the two day’s mail arrived. It missed again on Wednesday. It is seldom that you can meet with such a snap in Tillamook. Call at the store of Southmayd & Co., opposite the Allen house. The whole of the stock will be sold as quick as possible. Do not miss it. * The steamer Sue H. Elmore came in on Wednesday with the following pas sengers : S. Brown, E. S. W’ebster, Mrs. H. Robert, A. Wakey, T. Swenson, J. Whitman and wife, J. Spitts and W. W. Curtiss. She leaves again early Friday morning. The meetings at the Christian church continues each evening with increasing interest. On Saturday, at 3 p.m., Evan, gelist Ghormley will conduct a special mass meeting for bovs and girls. On Sunday, at 3 p.m , he will address a men's mass meeting.
