F. E. Norton has bought the Peyt
Wells’ ranch at Woods, the considera­
tion being $5,500. Mr. Norton, who has
been in the county several years, is an in­
dustrious and perseveJing citizen, and
we are glad to see him own a farm. The

I. C. Smith and wife (nee Miss Zoe
King), after spending nine days, honey­
moon in Astoria waiting for the steamer
to leave, arrived in this city on Sunday,
and the band boys gave the newly mar­
ried couple a reception in Todd’s hall Tues­
day, when about forty young people
spent a pleasant time together. Refresh­
ments were served during the evening.
Out of the twenty applicants who took
the teachers’ examination last week for
county papers onlv ten obtained the
necessary number of credits, viz : Mrs.
Beatrice Harrison, Misses Frankie Drew,
Alma Wagner, Anna Tinnerstet and
Grace Spaulding and N. C. Rhoades, Till­
amook ; M. E. Wheelock, Hebo ; Misses
Mabel Parker and May Robinson, Clover­
dale ; Miss Alice Eager, Bay City. Miss
Hudson took examination for state
papers.
Special gospel services are now being
held in the Christian Church, in Tilla-
mook, Rev. E. M. Patterson is being
assisted by Evangelist J. F. Ghormley,
of Portland, Ore. Dr. Ghormley has
been very successful in this department
of religious work. The public is most
cordially invited to attend these services
each evening. Sunday, February 21st,
the Evangelist will present the follow­
ing theme : 11 a.m —“The Assembly of
the Saints.’’ 7.30 p.m.—’’The Church of
the Twentieth Century.’’
