B aker : I notice in your issue of Dec. 17th, of the Headlight’’ you express great concern least an ap propi iation shall not lie made by the present Congress tor the improvement ol t he entrance to Tillamook Bay and urge the delegation to do all in its power to secure such an appropriation. I fully appreciate and sympathize with you in y »uranxietv to secure the appropriation I believe 1 fully realize its iniporiance, not onlv to the people ot Tillamook, hut to the stale of Oregon, liec.iuse the re gion that will be accorn nodated t>\ Tillamook Bav, it improved as it should be, is one of the i icncst and most pro ductive in Oregon. No proposed im provemeat is more deserving of recogni t>*m at the hands of Congress than i* Hie desired improvement of lillamook Bav. I trust 1 need n it say to you that every member of the Oregon delegation will exert himself in the utmost degree to secure a suitable appropriation tor that work, hut I feel at the same time that 1 r.hould frankly say to you that the | n>s|>ect for such an appropriation during the present session is not en couraging. It was in doubt for some weeks whether <>:* not anv river an I harbor bill would he passed at this session and it was only within the last week that it was determined by the leaders of the House to pass a bill, but they are verv insistent that it shall carry only a small amount and provide only for carrying forward work that has [ already been commenced, and that no ; new’ work shall he provided lor. If that ! purpose shall be adhered to and a suffi cient number of votes cannot he secured | to overcome it,then the new work in Ore , gon will liave to wait as well as in other | states. I sincerely hope that the policy , ( f excluding provisions for any new ' work will not prevail, and I can assure i you that tile Oregon delegation will do all it can to defeat any such program j But we tnav be powerless to bring about , its dele it, and if we shall be, then ol I course no appropriation for I he Tilla I mook Harbor can lie hoped f->r at this j session. Miss Winnie Goyne and friends of Till amook spent Xmasday with her brother, Thomas Goy lie. There was a Christmas tree and dance given at Grandma Johnson's Xmas eve. Mrs. Willis Powell gave a di nutJ Christmas. BEAVER. Clnistmas was celebrated herewith a grand hall at Bixby’s hall Thnre was a large crowd and all seemed to have a good time. We hear Mr. Bixby contein plates ha ving another dance new year’s night. Ed. Kinnaman and wife have moved back on their farm and Mark Bays and wile now stand behind the counter. Misses Elsie and Inez Dickens, of Dolph, are visiting at the home of Mrs. Bunn this week. John Spencer is building a house on his homestead.
