House Woolley in the Woolley West. To an intererting audience John G. Woollev, late candidate on theProhibi- tion for President, delivered an address on Monday in Portland. The subject was the suppression of the liquor traffic by methods of a political nature. Mr. Woolley expressed his confidence in the expectation of this country meeting the saloon question and setting in according to the views of the Prohibitionists. He predicted a Prohibition President and1 Governor for Oregon on the same plat-1 form. As to local and spasmodic meet- j ings for the supression of liquor he de clared that these efforts were misdirected and futile. He scored the Christian voters, how ever, who sing such hymns as “Stand Up for Jesus” in great crowds at such gatherings as those of the Epworth Lea gue. and then on election day vote the I Republican or Democratic ticket and he ! told of good men who call on him at the j close of his address and say: “You are all right, Mr. Woolley. I agree with you ■ heart and soul.’’ Mr. Woolley asks jsucli ■ a man how he votes, and if its in the North the man savs;“I’m a Republican”; if in the South, “Um a Democrat.’’ But voting the Republican or Democratic tickets will never put down the liquor traffic.
