From the Evening Newt, Detroit, Mich, Mn. John Taneoy, of 130 Baker Street, Detroit, Michigan, is one of those women who always know just what to do in all trouble and »ickneaa. One that is a mother tu those in distress To a reporter she said: “I am the mother of ten children and have raised eight of them. Several years ago we had a serious time with my daughter, which began when she was about sixteen years old. She did not have any serious illness but seemed to gradually waste away. Having never had any consumption in our families, as we come of good old Irish and Scotch descent, we did not think it was that disease. Neither did she have a hacking cough, yet she grew thinner and paler each day. Our doctor called the disease by an odd name which, os I afterward learned, meant lack of bloo<1. “It is impossible to describe the feelings John and 1 had as we noticed our daughter ilowlv passing away from us. As a last re* lort I was induced to try Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pa!e People, made bv the Dr. Wil liams Medicine Company, Schenectady, N. Y., which I understood contained in a con densed form all the elements necessary to give new lite and richness to the blood and | restore shattered nerves. t«tr.n v_, ..oTr.-R- —»11« had r ‘’ L box’ ‘he.™,»aa a decided change, and after three months treatment you would not have recognized her, aa her health was «n&W lJrJmpr0Ted- -She 5ttinert in rapidly and soon was in perfect health. I have always kept the pill, in the house aince and have recommended them to every one I could. I have told many mothers about them and they have made some wonderful cures. One of the girls had a young lady friend mat ineuu that came to the house almost every day, and she was a sight. Honestly, she seemed almost transparent. I »lid not care to have my daughters associate with her, aa I was afraid she would drop dead some day when they were out on the street. I recom mended and begged her to take Dr. Wil liams’ Pink Pills for Pale People, and told her of their sterling qualities and how the cost was slight, being only 50 cents a box or six boxes for $2.50, at any druggist’». Final ly I induced her to try them. “They helped her wonderfully, and un doubtedly saved her life. She now recom mends them to other young women. “Every mother in this land should keep these pills in the house, as they are good for many other ailments. I don’t believe in doctoring and never spent much money in medicines, hut I can recommend Dr. Wil liams’ Pink Pills to every mother that haa a daughter just coming into womanhood.” Wanted 20 cords of wood cut at the Pants................. .... 25»* DreRaes...................... .25 to 50» and Towels.............. 3‘ I holer Vent»... .., .......... 10* Court House, 4ft wood cut twice f<l Napkins.......... . .. 21s<-1 Night Diesbes.......... .10 to 25*- stacked in wo »«I shed. A GOOD PLEA. There came one day to an inn near Bo- Icgna, kept by a widow, Madonna Lucret- zie, three travelers. Seating themselves on a bench under her vine trellis, they were supplied with a flagon of Aleatioo by a love ly girl, her only child, the imago of her former self. In their hats they wore a medal, such as in that age was often dis tributed In war, and. they were evidently lubalterns in one of those free bands which were always ready to serve in any quarter, If a service it could be called, where a bat tle was little more than a mockery, and the slain, as on an opera stage, were up and fighting tomorrow. Overcome with the heat, they threw aside their cloaks, r.nd, with their gloves tucked under their belts, continued for some time in earnest conversation. At length they rose to go, and the Vene tian thus addressed their hostess: “Excellent lady, may we leave under your roof fora day or two this bag of gold?” “You may,” she replied gayly; “but, re member, we fasten only with a latch. Bars and bolts we have none in our vil lage, and if we had where would be you» security f” “In your word, lady.” “But what if I died tonight? Where would it be then?” said she laughingly “The money would go to tho church, foi none could claim it.” “Perhaps you will favor us with an ac knowledgment?” “If you will write it.” An acknowledgment was written ao cordlngly, and sho signed it before Master Bartolo, the village physician, who had just called by chance to learn the news of the day, the gold to bo delivered when ap plied fur, but to be delivered (these were the words) not to one nor to two, but to the three—words wisely introduced by those to whom it belonged, knowing what they knew of each other. Tho gold they had just released from a miser’s chest in Perugia, and they were now on a scent that promised more. ’ They and their shadows were no sooner departed than the Venetian returned, say ing, “Give me leavo to set my seal on the bag, ns the others have done.” And she placed it on a table before him, but in that moment she was called away to receive a cavalier who had just dismounted from bis horse, and when she came back it was gone. The temptation had proved irresisti ble. The man and the money had vanished together. ‘‘Wretched woman that lam!” she cried as in an agony of grief she fell on her daughter’s neck. “What will become of us? Are wo again to be cast out into the wide world? Unhappy child, would that thou hadst never b»*n born!” And all day long she lamented, but her tears avail ed her littlo. The others were not slow in returning to claim their due, and there were no tidings of the thief. He hud fled far away with his plunder. A process against her was Instantly begun in Bo logna, and what defense could she make; how r> lease herself from the obligation of the bond? Willfully or in negligence sh< bad parted with it to one, when she shouh have kept it for all, and inevitable ruir ■waited her. “Go, Gianetta,” said she to her dough l ter. “Take this veil which your mothei has worn and wept under and implore* the Counselor Calderino to plead for us on the daj- of the trial. He Is generous and will listen to the unfortunate, but, if he w ill not, go from door to door. Monaldi can Hot refuse us. Make haste, my child, but Mi'ml,er the chapel as you pass by it. Nothing prospers w ithout a prayer.” Alas, she went, but in vain! These were Ntalncd against them. Those demanded toore than they had to give, and all bode them despair. What was to be done? No ■dx> cate, and the cause to come on tomor- row! w Gianetta had a lover, and he was a ■tut ent of the law, a young man of great promise, Lorenzo Martelii.
