ÇLAUDE THAYER, ATTORNEY-AT-LAW, Last ueek a large cougar visited the farm of Mr C. F. Murphy of Sand Lake and killed a sheep. The cougar was a large one, the track measuring nearly four inches Mr Murphy poisoned the sheep the next day, and the next night the cougar devoured a portion of the sheep. Mr. Murphy tracked the ani mal several miles but could not find him. Nehalem Notes (From the Nehalem Tinies.) Chan. Christenson of Astoria, is spend ing a few days on the river, a guest of A. Anderson’« family The first base ball game of the season was played Sunday week by the “Upper” and “Lower” town nines. The score stood 9 to 13 in favor of the “lower town” boys. Another game is being talked up and Nehalem is liable to turn out some champion ball players before the season is over. C. H. Wheeler returned last Thurs day from Portland where he was when he received a telegram informing him of the wreck of the Occident We are in formed that he has made arrangements to have the steamer Chilkat do the freighting and towing here for the present.
